GEORGE HENRY (HARRY) HAMPSON 1924 - 2016 Harry was born June 30, 1924 in Ferndale, Manitoba to George Orvyl and Maude Elizabeth Hampson, and passed peacefully at Deer Lodge Veterans Health Centre on Thursday, May 5, 2016, with son Ross and grandson Jeffrey by his side. Harry grew up in "the farm life" obtaining the skill set that dictates, if it's broke - you fix it. He carried this all through life and many people benefitted from his handiness and ingenuity to make whatever improved the way of doing things. Harry joined the service of R.C.A.F. in 1943 and proudly served to 1946. It was in the Forces he met and subsequently married his loving wife Muriel on June 30, 1949 A man of great family values, both he and Muriel cherished "game day" of all of their grandchildren. Travelling wherever they could manage to watch sporting activities. Harry would give you the shirt off his back. He was always looking for ways to help others get through life easier - from petitioning for changing the sidewalk route at the apartments where he lived on Henderson, so seniors could walk for their groceries safely, to clearing the snow daily for them, even though it was not his job (at age 72), and clearing goose "poo" from the sidewalks while driving his scooter (at age 90) at Concordia Village. Harry is survived by three children and their families: widower Chuck (Sharon) McCormick of Winnipeg, MB and his children Michelle and Keith Mayer (Brendan and Nicholas), and Derek and Angela McCormick; daughter Nancy and Dave Robertson of Red Deer, AB and their sons Kevin and Lisa Robertson (Lynden and Tanner), and Michael and Kristi Robertson (Dhylan, Dawson and Dezmond); daughter Ruth and Paul Atherton of Smithers, BC and their daughters Sara and Mark Racicot (William) and Katherine Atherton and Ross, and son Ross and Melanie Hampson of Gimli, MB and Ross's sons Jeffrey Hampson and Adrienne, Corey Hampson and Amanda. Harry was predeceased by his loving wife of 61 years, Muriel, in 2010. Thank you Harry for the Hero you are. Funeral service will be held on Monday, May 16, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website. • We have known Harry to be a kind, soft spoken man, very helpful. He started helping out at the Millennium Gardens by sharing his fixing up knowledge. He spent much volunteer time repairing, and maintaining our Gardens. Harry and his wife also gardened with us. He spoke highly of his family and had many friends at the Gardens. We appreciated all his help so very much. A wonderful friend - Posted by: Darlene Karp Dianne Wickenden Millennium Gardeners (Gardening friend) on: Jun 02, 2016
