THOMAS GEORGE (GIGI) KIRKUP It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Thomas George (Gigi) Kirkup, on May 8, 2016, at Seven Oaks Hospital, at the age of 81. Tom was predeceased by his wife, Lil, of 48 years, daughter Lisa and many other family members. Tom's memory will be cherished by many, his sisters, Rose and Diane; his sons, Joseph (Dinah) and Rodney; son-in-law Michael (Ljubica); his grandchildren, Ashley (Auston), Katelynn, Amber, Athena, John, Dayton and many nieces, nephews and other family members. Born on March 26, 1935, in Winnipeg, Tom had worked hard all his life, from delivering flyers, working on the railways and then settling down with Canada Post for 35 years, until he retired in 1994. But that did not slow him down. Gigi, as family and close friends called him, was always looking for a new business venture, renewing his love for fishing, spending time with his family and tending to his garden. Tom wore many hats, a husband, father, uncle, a friend and a grandfather, and a mentor. Tom was a man that believed strongly in family values, hard work and a strong faith. He will be missed dearly with his words of wisdom, his slightly off humour, his devotion to family and most of all, the man that Gigi was. Interment will take place on Monday, May 16, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. at Glen Eden Cemetery, 4477 Main St., followed by a memorial service at Kildonan United Church at 11:00 a.m., located at 187 Kilbride Ave. In lieu of flowers, we ask on Tom's behalf, that donations be made to Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of Canada.
