Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALBERT PATENAUDE December 11, 1949 - May 12, 2016 "I'll be growing my tomatoes somewhere else this year," were among Albert's last words before his passing at the Health Sciences Centre on Thursday, May 12 at the age of 66. With Albert's passing, the world is losing a truly unique individual - skilled gardener, gourmet cook, nature lover, music appreciator, stalwart supporter and chronic extrovert. Family man to the core, Albert will be sorely missed by his wife Joan Patenaude, daughters Andrea (Gerald Enns) Patenaude of Yellowknife and Janine (Kevin Osachuk) Patenaude of Winnipeg; grandchildren Elias and Kael Enns and Jillian Osachuk; siblings Lucy (Jim) Bauer of Winnipeg, Georges Patenaude of Toronto, Roland (Elenore Wieler) Patenaude of Delta Beach; Louis (Diane) Patenaude of Winnipeg and Marie (Paul Soble) Patenaude of Ottawa; several nieces, nephews and other extended family members and in-laws. Albert was a social butterfly who will be remembered by an extensive network of friends and acquaintances. Albert will be greeted on his next journey by his parents Alberte and Ludovic Patenaude and his mother-in-law Kathleen Bouck-Otto, who passed only a month before he did. Born into humble beginnings on a farm in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec, Albert grew up in Winnipeg with a childhood shaped by a large musical family, Catholic school shenanigans, long summers at Delta Beach and a lengthy bout of polio. As a choirboy, Albert had a gift for singing that grew into a love for theatre, seeing him star in such roles as the Wizard of Oz' and God'. When he was 21, he hitch-hiked across Canada, returning months later with a Newfoundland dog and a girl named Joan, who he christened a boat after and later married. Albert and Joan enjoyed 40 years of marriage, raising two wonderful daughters. Albert worked in community television production for 20 years, meeting interesting people and adding his special touch to the programming. After being laid off, Albert studied massage therapy. While health issues prevented him from pursuing this new passion as a career, he used his skills to heal those around him. Albert dedicated his later years to tending his garden, serving on the Executive of the Post-Polio Network, connecting with friends and family and cooking many memorable meals. In acknowledgement of the challenges that shaped Albert's early and later years, please consider donating to the Post-Polio Network (Manitoba) Inc., 825 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, R3A 1M5. A celebration of Albert's life will take place at Glen Lawn Funeral Home at 455 Lagimodière Blvd. on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca Glen Lawn Funeral Home 204-982-7550

Many years ago a party that had run into the wee hours, guests were getting hungry, snacks were running low. Albert and I scrounged fridge and cupboards to create a pasta with meat and a sauce we dubbed shelf sauce made with whatever we could find on the shelves. That was Albert making something good out of the ingredients at hand. I still make shelf sauce, it reminds me of a good man and a good friend. - Posted by: Tom MacLeod (Friend) on: May 17, 2016
