ANELKA (NELL) APSHKRUM (nee TROCHIM) It is with great sorrow that the family of Nell Apshkrum announces her passing on May 11, 2016 at the Meno Ya Win Health Centre, Sioux Lookout Ontario. Nell leaves to mourn her daughter Lorraine (Ron) Bennett, grandchildren Dwayne (Michelle) Bennett and Deanne (David) Kulchyski. Nanny's greatest joy was her great-grandchildren Kyla and Joel Kulchyski and Lauren, Isabelle and Rebecca Bennett. Mom's devotion to her family will always be remembered. She also leaves to mourn her brothers Leonard (Reva) and Daniel (Elaine), Stella Trochim and numerous nieces and nephews. Nell was born in Poplar Park, Manitoba on December 26, 1923. She came to Winnipeg at a young age where she met her beloved husband Norman. They married in 1945, their home was in Winnipeg for many years. They transferred to Brandon, MB and eventually retired to Rotary Towers in Gimli MB. In 2014 when it was realized that Nell could no longer live on her own she moved to Sioux Lookout, ON where she resided with her daughter and son-in-law. Nell worked at the New Nan King for many years, Eaton's and then Safeway when they moved to Brandon. Nell was a homemaker and all that knew her enjoyed the pickles that she made annually. She was a very giving person, and very much loved by her family. Nell was predeceased by her husband Norman in 2002, a daughter in 1953, her parents Nicholas and Tekla, her siblings Olga and husband Tony Manitowich, Michael and wife Nellie, Peter, William and wife Stella, Joseph and wife Irene, Julia Lefteruk and husband Donald. As per Mom's wishes there will be no funeral service. A graveside gathering will be held with family only at a later date. The family wishes to thank Dr. Jon Morgan and the nursing staff at the Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre for their kindness during the short period she was in the hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Meno Ya Win Health Centre through the Sioux Lookout Funeral Home, Box 1449, Sioux Lookout, Ontario, P8T 1B9.

  • "A special person remembered, and a beautiful life honored" with our deepest sympathy, Joan & Jack Klips - Posted by: Joan & Jack Klips (friends) on: May 26, 2016

  • I am so sorry for your loss. I will always remember your mom as a kind and smiling aunt. Though we didn't see each other often, she always had a way of making me feel special. I will remember visiting her in Brandon with your Dad, laughing with her at big family gatherings and listening to stories about my Dad as a little boy. We are sending you love and good thoughts. xo Carole, Chad and Emily - Posted by: Carole McMillan (Niece) on: May 16, 2016
