MILDRED CUDMORE November 19, 1926 - May 12, 2016 It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that our family announces the passing of our dear, sweet mother, grandmother and great-grandmother (Nana), while surrounded by her loving family, at the Riverview Health Centre on May 12, 2016. Mildred was predeceased by her husband Clare (Oakie) in 1971, and by beloved son Guy in May of 2015. Left to grieve and mourn her passing are her daughter Marlene Thorne (Garry), grandchildren Brandy Cudmore-Mann (Jason), Kelley Komar (Shane), Haley Thorne (Chris), and Graham Thorne (Josh), great-grandchildren Presley, Paiton, Fenton, Macy, Stella, and Ari, and her furry friend Hank, along with a few close friends and family. Mildred was born in Winkler, Manitoba on November 19, 1926 to parents Helen and August Mackay. Her father was section foreman for the C.P.R. in the area. Around 1942, Mildred moved with her family to Crystal City, Manitoba, where she would meet and eventually marry Clare Cudmore on April 12, 1946. Together they owned and operated a restaurant and bakery where Mom served the public and made numerous apple pies, always her specialty. Nothing could beat her apple pies. Their first child, Guy, was born in 1948, followed by Marlene in 1955. Mildred also worked in retail dry goods sales, mainly the Robinson Store, which she also owned and operated for a year on her own. Later in Winnipeg, she would nanny for a young girl while also helping to care for her grandchildren. Some of Mildred's interests and hobbies were drawing and art, for which she had an AMAZING talent. She was proud to know that her grandson Graham had inherited her gift. She also loved knitting, needlepoint, tennis, curling, baseball, singing in the United Church choir, and becoming a member of the Rebekkah Lodge. Later in Winnipeg, and while in her 60s, she took up cross country skiing and joined the "Y" where she took swimming lessons and yoga. We have many fond, insightful, and powerful memories of Mom. She was a teacher of the "Bird Dance", a mesmerizing storyteller, keeper of the "candy bucket", and lover of Pepsi. She was infamous for her salt and hot sauce affliction. No meal went without her asking for that salt shaker. In those few moments when life's frustrations got the best of her, we will remember her clever retort "Sugar Shit Ass Damn Bugger Bitch Shit House Mouse!" She was a caregiver in all manner of ways that any one of us should endeavour to equal; and in return for this she was a deserving beneficiary of the intense love and admiration of her family. Mom lived for her family and would do anything and everything for us. She would often say if she had more she would give us more. Her constant love, support, and concern were more than enough. We used to say if she didn't have something to worry about, she'd find something. Ha! Mom was the heart and soul of our family and the glue that holds us together. She will be sorely missed and forever with us. We love you Momma, Granny, and Nana. Watch over us, sleep tight, and so long... until we meet again. Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mildred's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
