HILDA MARGARET DECKER -
Date of Passing: May 10, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHILDA MARGARET DECKER 1919 - 2016 The family of Hilda Margaret Decker is saddened to announce her passing on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at the Charleswood Care Centre. Left to remember this wonderful lady are sons, Glen (Sylvia) and Doug; grandchildren, Jennifer, Heidi (Michel), Sara (Alex), Adam, Matthew (Tracie) and Amanda (Justus); great-grandchildren, Katrina, Kalea, Makenna and Kason. Special mention to Rita and Jaimi, both important in Mom's life, and to her many nieces and nephews. Mom was predeceased by the two most cherished people in her life. Her husband of 64 years, Cec, passed away in 2005 and her beloved son Clint, in 2014. She was also predeceased by her sister Isobel and brother Allister. Whenever Dad spoke of Mom, it was with great pride, and the reasons became more evident after he passed away. Mom was left, at the age of 85, to be caregiver to Clint, who lived with an intellectual disability. Mom never drove, but she always got Clint to his many activities, and it was not unusual to see them walking the two mile walk together (summer and winter) to Perkins, their favourite restaurant. She loved Clint, and it is somewhat of a blessing that when he died in October 2014, Mom was in a care centre with the effects of dementia, so she never learned of his passing. Mom was born in Shoal Lake, Manitoba. She attended Brandon College and moved with Cec to Winnipeg in 1940, and together they raised their family, first in Deer Lodge, then in Silver Heights. With Glen away at military college, Clint, old enough to work at ARC Industries (now ImagineAbility) and Doug safely in school, Mom began working at Simpsons-Sears, where she made many friends and remained for 25 years. She and Dad enjoyed their Florida vacations together, loved visiting Glen in Europe, and looked forward to time spent at Clear Lake and points west. Here at home, Mom's favourite trip was her weekly walk to the library. She was a voracious reader. Her family, though, was her life, and she would do anything for them. She adored her grandchildren, and her face would light up at the mere mention of their names. Mom worked hard all her life, and she has earned her rest. We will miss her, but we will never forget her. In compliance with Hilda's wishes, no Funeral Service will be held. Special thanks to the kind staff of Charleswood Care Centre. I'm sorry to learn of Mrs. Decker's passing. I grew up on Fidler Avenue in Winnipeg and was a regular visitor in the Decker home all through school. I always remember her being in good spirits and with a good sense if humour. My condolences to my childhood friend Doug and older brother Glen and the rest of the family. - Posted by: Don Grant (Former neighbour) on: Jan 19, 2017

Condolences to your family on Hilda's passing. We were neighbors of Cec & Hilda from 1991-1997 and have fond memories of them both as they were such lovely people. Cec always had a smile and a great story and Hilda was always walking. We missed them dearly when we moved. - Posted by: Liz & Scott Cale (Previous neighbors) on: May 22, 2016
