STRAKER October 3, 1952 - May 21, 2016 David John Straker, beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and great friend, passed away suddenly Saturday, May 21, 2016, at the age of 63 years. Dave is survived by his wife, Ethel, of 34 years; his children, Jamie (Aileen), Charmaine, and Tobi (Ric) Wilson; grandchildren, Shaylynn, Xavier, Greysyn, Rylan, Teagan, and C.J.; his mother, Jean Straker; siblings, Diane (Roy) Kleibl of Qualicum Beach, Ray (Mary), Peter (Donnie) of Toronto, and Cathy (Laurence) Ledoyen. He was predeceased by his dad, John Straker (2004). Dave is also survived by his in-laws, Floyd Patrick, Richard (Eileen) Patrick, Jennifer (Alex) Patrick, Judy (Willard) Chartrand, Madeline Everette, Vernon (Iris) Flett; nieces and nephews, Andrea (Doug) Battison, Dana Kleibl, Aaron (Shannon) Kleibl, Heather (Matt) Weiss, Leanne Straker, Jacob Straker, Malcolm Straker, Kyle Ledoyen, Lorrie Chartrand, Becky (John) Sitarek, Nancy Chartrand, Stephanie Merrick, Misty (Tim) Patrick, Donny, Daisy (Delmer) Semple, TJ (Terrilynn) Monkman, Cara (Kevin) Galka, Myra Bittern, Melvin Daffey, Delphine Bruce, Vanessa (Danny) Sanderson, Angie (Greg) Berens, Anthony (Viola) Everett, Andrew (Suzzane) Everett, Amy (Louie), Meaghan Patrick, April (Kevin) Green, Buzzy (Matrina) Everette, Jocelyn (Patrick), Jackson (Sara) Everette, Angel Everette (Richard), Ethel Everette, Grant and Tyler Flett, and Chrissy Owens; numerous great-nieces and nephews, a special "sister", Sylia (Victor) Caux of Yorkton, a very special cousin Chris (Kate) Straker, and Aunt Edith Straker from England. Dave was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on October 3, 1952. Dave loved football (soccer in Canada). His favourite team was Manchester United. Dave played soccer for Elmwood and Transcona area. He loved to play, coach and watch soccer. He briefly coached his daughters on the South End United premier team. Dave graduated from Windsor Park Collegiate in 1969. He started his career after working at Hudson's Bay in the north; his first placement was in Rankin Inlet, Igloolik and Iqaluit in the territories. After the territories he met his wife in Berens River in 1975 while stationed with the Hudson's Bay Company. Dave stayed in Berens River where he got a job with Manitoba Hydro and worked a few years. He changed careers and got a job with Frontier School Division in Norway House in 1981 where he worked for 12 years. While in Norway House he met a lot of good friends that he's kept in touch with over the years. Dave spent the remainder of his 22 year career with Frontier at the Winnipeg Head Office. A special thank you to Kevin Feniuk, his home care nurse who did an amazing job and Elaine Arbez and Linda Davidson his oncology nurses from CancerCare Manitoba. A huge thank you to his coffee buddies: Cam Giavedoni, Jim Rondeau, Bill McBride, Norm Lee, and Bob Bull for always taking the time to keep in touch. He will be sadly missed by his beloved dogs Charlie and Cassie. We would like to thank John and Becky Sitarek for the use of their home. A service will be held on May 27, 2016 at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Avenue. There will be a private viewing for the family at 1:00 p.m. and a public viewing from 1:30 p.m. to 1:55 p.m., service will be at 2:00 p.m. with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider a monetary donation to the family to assist with funeral costs.
