RAYMOND (RAY) BERNARD ASH On Tuesday, May 24, 2016 Ray Ash passed away peacefully at the age of 79 years. Left to mourn Ray's memory are his loving wife of 57 years, Dianne (nee Hollingsworth); son Guy and wife Marlene; daughter Lee Ann Torbiak and husband Carl Torbiak; six grandchildren; sisters, Julie Ash, Joyce Aston; brother Bill Ash and numerous nieces and nephews are mourning his passing. He was predeceased by his parents (Bert and Irene Ash) and daughter, Tammy Lynn. Ray had a successful career with the CFL, playing for Regina, Winnipeg and Edmonton from 1959 to 1965. He was the victor of two Grey Cups, including the Fog Bowl with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. His love of the game continued with assistant coaching at the University of Manitoba Bison football program and culminated with the Vanier Cup championship in 1969 and 1970. In total, as a player and a coach, Ray won seven national championships. He has been inducted into the Winnipeg and Manitoba Sport Hall of Fame and Sports Hall of Fame for numerous football achievements. His long professional career in Manitoba Hydro saw success in various positions, including the head of Human Resources. Upon Ray's retirement, he completed an elected position as the President of the Hyline Credit Union. In retirement Ray spent numerous hours enjoying time at the cabin he built by hand, pursuing his painting, drawing and time with each of his six grandchildren. He enjoyed reading, writing and telling many football stories including the "Blue Angel" that won Canadians notoriety with the Americans. He will be loved and missed by all his family and friends. At Ray's request, a private Family Service will be held. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or charity of choice.
