Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLILIA MARIE DAY (nee EYLANDS) Passed away peacefully in Peterborough, ON, on May 25, 2016, at the age of 83, with her family at her side. Predeceased by her siblings Sigrun Dolorus and Jon Valdimir, and survived by sister Elene Helga. Beloved wife of Barry, mother of Kathryn (David Oikawa), Lorna (David Wilson) and Duncan (Elizabeth Payette), and adoring Amma to Oliver, Simon, Hannah, Sam, Charlotte, Dexter, Neville and Lewis. The daughter of an Icelandic Lutheran Pastor in Winnipeg and the wife of a United Church minister, Lilia was a linguist, psychologist, teacher and musician. She will be remembered by many in the Peterborough community for her beautiful and moving contralto voice, and her dedication as a counsellor and mentor to many. Her friends, family and former students will especially miss her wisdom, and intelligence; her cakes, gardens, and needlework; and her great beauty, style, feminism, and especially her love and generosity. Her great love was Barry, her husband of nearly 60 years, whose devotion to her was beyond measure. Together they built a family that gave them great pleasure and pride. Funeral service will be held at Trinity United Church, 360 Reid Street, Peterborough on Friday, June 3, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
