CARLA MARIE ROBERTS 1923 - 2016 Died May 25, 2016 Carla was vivacious. With a twinkle in her blue eyes, she is dancing somewhere now. Born in Hamburg, Germany in 1923, she was swept off her feet by a British soldier, Stanley Roberts (dec. 1990) and left Germany behind her. After 15 years in England, Carla and Stan came to Canada to forge a new life and found their home and a rich community, where they proudly lived for over 50 years. She will be missed by her special friends in that community, most especially by Marie Quiejo and Angel Connolly, who with their families embraced her and shared their lives with her, especially after her Stan died. Both of these women were so much closer than crossing fences and back lanes might reveal. She was blessed with good friends Carla was predeceased by her sister Edith (dec. 1994) and her husband Rolf Drescher (dec. 1988). The sisters laughed and cried together, and shared memories as only sisters can. Carla was treasured by her niece Evelyn Drescher (Mitch Bloom), with whom she shared her love of reading - thank you Tante Carla for that gift and for keeping the memory of my mother and father alive with me. Nicolas and Hilary Drescher Brown, Evelyn's children, loved their great aunt and will miss her as part of who they are. They will carry her with them always. Evelyn and Angel had the privilege of caring for Carla in the closing chapter of her life - she died peacefully and knew that she was loved by many. Dance lightly and enjoy the wine.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • She was like the younger version of a "Grandma" to my daughter Ceili and I... she would hate that so lets go with "The Spunky Aunty Carla" !! We will miss you dearly Miss Carla and never will you be forgotten. Our memories of your laughter, spunk and spice will always make our hearts smile. Your straight up attitude and zest toward life was inspirational and heartfelt and touched so many people. Our hearts skipped a beat when Mom told me you had left the life we knew and shared. Our hearts will be with you forever our dear Miss Carla. Tonight I raise my glass in honour of you... your spirit lives on. We LOVE YOU and MISS you like mad. xoxo - Posted by: Margaret Connolly () on: May 31, 2016
