JOYCE ALMA MARKS (nee BOWMAN) It is with deep regret that we announce the death of our beloved mother on Sunday, May 22, 2016, at Riverview Health Centre, at the age of 82 years. Our mother is survived by her husband of 59 years, Lawrence Marks and her loving children: daughter Lori, sons David (Tressie) and Bruce (Dawn), and her cherished granddaughter Mia. Joyce is also survived by her two sisters Donna and Doreen; brother Dale (Allice), and their families; brothers and sisters-in-law, Stan and Ann Marks, Bob and Marg Drysdale, Greg and Barb Graham, Wendy Marks, Gaynor Marks, and their families. She was predeceased by her parents, Danny and Laura (nee McKnight), and her six brothers and three sisters. Joyce was born and raised in Gunton, Manitoba. She decided to become a teacher and after graduating from the Normal School in Winnipeg, she started her teaching career in rural Manitoba, and shortly after with the Winnipeg School Division #1, teaching grades 1 and 2. She also received her Bachelor of Education from the University of Winnipeg. During her retirement, Joyce enjoyed volunteering at Deer Lodge Hospital where she did crafts with patients and helped with fundraising events. She also enjoyed baking, music, watching curling and tennis, and spending time with her granddaughter. In compliance with Joyce's wishes, no formal Funeral Service will be held. A private family service will be held at a later date. Special thank you to the nurses, health care aides and Dr. Borrett at the Grace Hospital (3 South) for everything they did over the two and a half months that Mom was there. We'd also like to thank the Palliative nurses and health care aides that helped Mom when she was home during her final weeks prior to her passing. To all of you, we thank you for your compassion, caring and warmness to our mother and to us during this difficult time. • I give thanks for the life of Mrs. Marks, my teacher in the late seventies who taught English at Louis Riel Collegiate. She was a wonderful teacher, always kind and helpful, with a great sense of humour. I believe great teachers inspire others to become teachers, as Mrs. Marks did for me. Prayers for her family and all who will miss her. Love, Sr. Mary Finlayson rscj - Posted by: Mary Finlayson (former student) on: Jun 02, 2016
