ALLAN GRANT BROCK MARCH 17, 1932 - JUNE 4, 2016 The family is saddened to announce the peaceful passing of Allan at St. Boniface Hospital after a courageous fight following recent heart surgeries. He was predeceased by his parents, Earl and Mabel Brock. He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Hazel, son, Grant Morgan, and daughter, Arlene Genik (Terry). He was born in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan and lived in various places before setting down permanent roots in Winnipeg in 1955. He met Hazel Perry through the Young Adult Group at Young United Church and they were married on August 1, 1956. In December of 1964, Grant arrived and in December of 1966, Arlene joined the family. Allan worked at CP Rail briefly before joining Air Canada in 1956. He retired in 1989 after 32 years of service with Air Canada. Outside of working hours, Allan served in various capacities at Young United Church and Sturgeon Creek United Church. He served as Chair of the General Board at Sturgeon Creek United Church, and on the Building Committee following the fire that destroyed the sanctuary in 1990. He was also a Past President and honorary Life Member of the St. James Horticultural Society and the Manitoba Horticultural Association. In 1990 he was elected to the Board of General Purposes of the Grand Lodge of Manitoba, Ancient, Free and Accepted Masons. In 2002 he was elected an honorary member of that Board. His systematic mind and interest in history led, in November of 1990, to work on organizing the archives of the Grand Lodge of Manitoba - work in which he took great pride and pleasure and which he continued until the time of his passing. He was also appointed as Manitoba's first Grand Archivist. His love for travel took them to many destinations both in North America and abroad. Allan also enjoyed the time they spent at their cottage in Matlock. Allan and Hazel moved to the Kiwanis Terrace in 2014 where they became part of a wonderful community of new friends which he enjoyed very much. Thanks to Drs. D. Breckman, Kroeker, Raabe, and the team of St. Boniface ICCS for their excellent care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sturgeon Creek United Church or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Funeral will be held at Sturgeon Creek United Church on Thursday, June 9 at 2:00 p.m.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • I met Allan and Hazel for the first time on the day my mother moved into Kiwanis Terrace in February 2015. They made a point of introducing themselves and welcoming my mother to her new community. In the months since, it has been my pleasure to visit with Allan and Hazel over numerous shared meals. I enjoyed his kindess, wit and wisdom and ability to tell a good story. I extend my sincere condolences to Hazel and your family. - Posted by: Maureen MacDonald (Kiwanis Terrace family) on: Jun 10, 2016

  • John and I enjoyed listening to Allan's stories during family dinners at Arlene's and Terry's. His sense of humour and realism was always entertaining, his love and pride in his family always shone through. During visits at St. B. He appreciated a good conversation and added to it with dry wit, a smile, wink and a good squeeze of the hand. He was a good soul and will be missed! - Posted by: Linda McLean (Family Friend) on: Jun 07, 2016
