MARY KOLYNCHUK Having lived a life full of grace and courage, shining brightly in the lives of her loved ones, the family announces the peaceful passing of Mary Kolynchuk, dearly loved wife, mother, Baba, Great-Baba, sister and friend on Tuesday, June 7, 2016. To always love and cherish her memory, she leaves son Jerry (Joan), daughter Adrienne (Kevin), grandchildren Lynn (Jeff), Onilee and Karver, great-grandchildren Amy and Mason along with many relatives and dear friends. She is survived by sisters Helen, Anne and sister-in-law Violet and predeceased by husband and love of her life Mike, brothers Bill, Peter, Paul and John and sisters Olga, Phyllis, Mary and Barbara. Mom was born in Trentham, MB on December 27, 1923 to Kyrylo and Anna Hunka, and attended Slawna School in Trentham, MB until moving to Winnipeg to work at the Manitoba Club and The Fort Garry Hotel, but her most treasured job was that of wife, mother and Baba. She met Mike at a Half Moon dance in Lockport. After reluctantly giving him her number, they married in 1944 and settled in the Kirkness area, where they farmed and raised two beautiful children. Spending 58 loving years together, they enjoyed time in the Bahamas, Florida, Hawaii, Arizona, Texas, Mexico and the Caribbean, where she collected her prized souvenir spoons, only rivalled by husband Mike's cap collection. Mary loved to spend time with family and friends and was famous for her perogies, holubtsi, entertaining and attending barn dances with Mike. She also loved gardening, and spent many hours tending to her beautiful flower and vegetable gardens. Mary dearly loved the many hours she spent with her grandchildren, Lynn, Onilee and Karver and great-grandchildren Amy and Mason. Selfless was the best way to describe our Mom and Baba. She always put her family and friends ahead of her own needs and desires, as that is what brought her pleasure and provided her with a beautiful and complete quality of life. Her family would like to thank her dearest friend, Margie Robertson, who never left her side and was a constant source of comfort and support, along with countless other family and friends. The family would also like to acknowledge the wonderful care she received from Dr. Zoppa, the nurses at Selkirk Hospital and her home care workers at the Knights Centre. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 11 at Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk, MB, with interment to follow at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Gonor, MB. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Mom, you truly knew what was important in life, and passed that on to those around you. We will always love you and will always miss you. I was so sorry to hear about Mary's passing. She was my mother's (Anne Dutka) neighbor, across the hall, at the Knight's Centre. Mary was always very gracious, friendly and a gentle person and we always enjoyed our visits with her. She was also very kind to my mom and concerned about her and others. I know that Mary loved her family very much -- she always spoke of them and with such pride. Mary was a beautiful person- she will be missed.
