LAWRENCE LESYK Peacefully, on June 9, 2016, surrounded by his family, our dad lost his brief battle with cancer. His strong Catholic faith comforted him and gave him strength through his illness. Predeceased by his parents, Tekla and Julian Lesyk and brothers Eugene and Anatole. Survived by his loving wife Kathryn, daughters Christine Peers (Steven), Barb Lesyk (Tim), Susan DeBlaere (Kevin), Laura Lesyk (Jeff) and grandchildren Victoria, Riel, Alyssa, Julia, Mitchell, Jacob, Andrew, Kiera, James and Max. Also left to mourn are his siblings: Brother Nestor, Bill (Sharon), Sister Theresa, Stephanie (Bob) and numerous nieces and nephews. Lorry was born on August 7, 1937 in Winnipeg. He graduated from the University of Manitoba and taught mathematics for 38 years at Grant Park and Winnipeg Adult Education Center. Family was everything to Lorry and his daughters were his pride and joy. Summer vacations were spent travelling by car through Canada and the U.S. He loved babies and was blessed with ten beautiful grandchildren. His life revolved around attending all of their various activities. He spent his retirement travelling the world with his wife Kathy, often through the Friendship Force. His highlights include Japan and Australia. He loved playing crib with the guys, playing volleyball Thursday nights for over 50 years, and gourmet dinner groups with friends. The family would like to thank Dr. Kansara and Dr. Park. The family would especially like to thank Al Buchel for his compassionate support. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 15th, at 11:00 a.m. at the Parish of St. Timothy, 135 John Forsyth Road. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Kidney Foundation.

  • Dear Kathy and Family So sad to hear of Lorry's death. What a shock for you all that he was taken from you way to soon. We would like to tell you that you are in our thoughts and prayers. I am away in Vancouver now and will not be back home until after the funeral. I will be in touch later. Sincere sympathy. • I can see that smile, and I can hear that voice (eh?)! It was always special when Lorry and Gail came to visit me in Detroit, and I them in Winnipeg. He loved sports, and we enjoyed watching games together: at Comerica Park and Martin Luther King High School, and on TV. One memory from my visit there last October is of his pulling out several hockey jerseys for me to choose one to wear to the Jets/Flames game. He was fun, generous and kind, and he loved his family. He was part of my family. I loved him. I will miss him. Rest in Peace. - Posted by: Elin Chambers (Cousin) on: Jun 13, 2016

  • I am so sorry for your loss. I had wonderful years working with Lorry throughout his career at W.A.E.C. I knew him as a very loving and proud husband, father, grandfather, colleague, friend and teacher. His smiling eyes sparkled with joy as he shared many stories about different facets of his life. I know he felt truly blessed and it was an honour to have known him. - Posted by: Dina Granove (Colleague and Friend) on: Jun 11, 2016

  • Mr. Lesyk was one of my favorite teachers when I attended Grant Park in the mid 1960s. I had a Grade 10 class with him and I particularly remember being taught geometry by him. That class helped a lot in developing my love for mathematics. - Posted by: Sam Broverman (Student at Grant Park High School 1964-68) on: Jun 11, 2016

  • We are so sad to hear about your loss. It was always a joy to see your Dad out supporting Kiera and James at their games and activities. What a great Dad and Grandpa! - Posted by: Jennifer Watt (Friend of Laura Lesyk and Family) on: Jun 11, 2016
