Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHELEN DOREEN MARTIN (nee WILSON) May 25, 1922 - June 6, 2016 It is with great sadness that the family of Helen Doreen Martin announces her recent passing at the Golden Door Geriatric Centre in Winnipeg. The daughter of Annie Mae (nee Falconer) and Samuel Wilson, Doreen grew up on the family farm at Justice, MB where, often arriving in a horse drawn buggy, she attended Justice Consolidated School. Following graduation from secondary school at Brandon Collegiate, she went on to obtain her Registered Nursing diploma from Brandon General Hospital in 1943. After spending a year at Virden General Hospital she joined Trans-Canada Airlines where she spent six enjoyable years as a stewardess. Doreen married Bill Martin in October of 1950 and raised her two young boys in Wildwood Park, concurrently working as an evening nursing supervisor at the Winnipeg Municipal Hospitals. She spent 25 years between the Queen Elizabeth and King George Hospitals, retiring in June of 1987. She was very proud to be a nurse. Doreen moved to the Adamar Apartments in 1988 where she made many new friends. She was a dedicated swimmer and loved her time spent with "the girls" in the pool. She was an enthusiastic crib player and would drop everything for a game. Immediate family left to mourn Doreen's passing are her sons Bob (Patricia) of Calgary, Guy (Laurie) of Winnipeg, and sister Bernice Cook of St. Albert, as well as her beloved grandchildren David, Ryan and Kate. Doreen was recently predeceased by her brother Lyall (Barb) Wilson of Brandon. Doreen will be missed by all those whose lives she touched. Her optimism, determination and good nature were a model for us all. The family would like to thank the staff at the Golden Door for all of their efforts and compassion. A private family service will be held to honour Doreen's life.

In collecting information for a Falconer family history, I just learned of Doreen's passing, and wish to express my condolences to her family, and my admiration for her life well lived, as portrayed in her obituary. I am Doreen's cousin - the son of her uncle David Ray Falconer. I recall meeting her only once, when I was very young, when she was a stewardess. Doreen's life is now summarized in my "Dunkeld Falconer" family tree at https://dunkeldfalconer.tribalpages.com/ - Posted by: David Duncan Falconer (Cousin) on: Oct 19, 2020
