HENDRIK (HENK) P. SCHIPPERS October 26, 1931 - June 10, 2016 Peacefully, Henk's spirit returned to his Creator. Predeceased by his granddaughter Shantell Ann Meyers, Henk is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marcia and their children, Janine (Robert) Kasprick, Pamela (Jeff) Dykstra, Frank (Deb) Schippers and Rita (Stephen) Rebizant, as well as their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Henk was born in the city of Haarlem, Netherlands, to Frank and Nel Schippers. In 1958, he came to Canada and soon met and fell in love with Marcia Disselkoen. In 1960, they married and soon after started a family. Henk received his certification as a professional engineer in 1967, which led to a long career with Manitoba Hydro. He continued working and playing the organ for his Associate Royal Conservatory of Toronto certificate in 1981. He worked hard in every area of his life, but spending time with his children and their families was always very special to him. He was committed to his faith and his church, teaching and guiding his family in that path. He set the example of what it means to give to others by spending his time as a board member and volunteer for Hope Centre Inc., teaching the organ and playing for his church. Dad's music was the soundtrack to 50 years of services, baptisms, weddings, celebrations and funerals. This is how a lot of people will remember him. He was always kind, humble and compassionate with everyone he met and welcomed all into his home, often sharing the goodness of his homemade chokecherry wine. As a family, we spent many summers in various trailers camping at Big Whiteshell Lake and as the kids grew up, Mom and Dad took to the open road in their blue and white Chevy van, criss-crossing the continent from Alaska to Florida and California to PEI. He deeply appreciated the wonders and beauty of the world around him and was always eagerly planning their next big adventure. A private family interment will be held. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Henk's life on Wednesday, June 15 at 2:00 p.m., in the afternoon, at Covenant Christian Reformed Church, 653 Knowles Ave., Winnipeg. Heartfelt thanks to the nurses and doctors of the Palliative Unit at St. Boniface Hospital. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
