MORRIS OLINYK With family at his side, Morris passed away peacefully at Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg on June 13, 2016. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 63 years, Bessie (nee Tomenchuk), son Dave (Marla), daughter Carol (Martin) Mullin, granddaughter Alex Mullin, sister Ollie Wynkoop, and brother Ernie (Mary Ann). Morris was predeceased by his parents Petro Olijnyk and Melania Minnie Ewasiuk, both from Strilkivci, Ukraine, his sister Beatrice (John Murdoch) Cameron, and his son-in-law Tom Brewster. Morris was born in 1927 in Winnipeg but spent his childhood playing in and around the Shell River in Shevlin, Manitoba. As a young man he became an Ironworker which allowed him to travel throughout the Prairie Provinces. One of his first major projects was the Pine Falls Generating Station in 1949. He was a foreman for Dominion Bridge for the majority of his career. Retirement gave Morris and Bessie the gift of travel. Their favourite trips were to Texas to watch their jewel, granddaughter Alex, grow up. Morris showed his love of family and friends by doing things for them. He had tireless energy to fix things or invent gadgets to make their lives better. If you noticed a twinkle in his eye at gatherings of family and friends, you knew you could expect some good humoured joking or playful teasing. Morris lived his life as a kind family man and was a wonderful friend to many. Prayers will be held at All Saints Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 1500 Day Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba on Monday, June 20 at 7:00 p.m., and Funeral Service will be held at All Saints Ukrainian Orthodox Church on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
