BERTHA BAKER Bertha (Babby) Baker passed away peacefully on June 4th, at the age of 97. Babby was born on Redwood Avenue and always had stories to share of North End Winnipeg life in the first half of the twentieth century. She remained in Winnipeg throughout her life, raising three children with her loving husband, David. An avid supporter of the arts, Babby particularly enjoyed the symphony and the ballet. Her natural friendliness and charisma endeared her to all who knew her, and she maintained a large circle of friends with whom she loved to play bridge, enjoy summers at Winnipeg Beach, and chat in Yiddish. She was very close with her siblings and many nieces and nephews. Into her 90s, Babby remained interested in current events and read widely. Her knitting kept her whole family warm with sweaters, slippers, and afghans. Most of all, she was a dedicated mother to Neil (Analyn), Diane (Aaron), and Robert (Lisette); grandmother to Daniel, Lauren, Romain, Gary, Arielle, and Simone, and (recently) great-grandmother to Clara. Babby had a long and fulfilling life, and we will miss her dearly.
