KENNETH IAN MACDONALD
Date of Passing: Mar 06, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKENNETH IAN MACDONALD In loving memory of Ian - husband, father, brother, friend - who lived his faith from the heart. Ian saw the Church not as a building but as community for peace, social justice and love. Following his ordination, he served the United Church congregation in Cartwright, Manitoba; at Westworth, Augustine and Norwood churches in Winnipeg; and at South Burnaby United in Burnaby, BC. Creativity flowed out of Ian, whether he was writing songs for the Common Cup Company or sketch comedy for puppets to bring scripture alive for little kids and big kids. There is a Celtic tradition that creation is simply God's laughter. When we laugh we move closer to God. Ian lived that truth. Often the humour was a bridge between himself and someone who was troubled; he helped many people with his deep compassion. These gifts did not totally desert him after he was diagnosed with Lewy Body dementia in 2012. He mustered his declining resources with typical ingenuity and faced the disease with courage. He died March 6, 2016 in Vancouver, surrounded by Heather, sons Jamie, Rory and Derek, and lilting song. He was much loved and as he himself would have sung, "In God's good grace, love offers no farewells". A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m., June 24 at Augustine United Church, 444 River Avenue. In lieu of flowers, please share your gift of money or time to bring peace and justice to our world.

Ian was our neighbour on Dromore and we went to Kelvin. We curled together at the Granite and in the MCA - where his Father " Donald Bruce" presided over the MCA bonspiel service . He was a great curler and gentleman. He was destined to be a minister - he and Jan Brown were sweeping a rock in a game at the Granite and Jan slipped and was headed straight down on top of the rock - Ian grabbed him by the bulky Granite sweater and the rock was saved ! Ten years later Dee and I asked him to marry us and we had a perfect wedding at Ian's Westworth Church . Ian was a good friend and I will miss him. kelly moss - Posted by: kelly moss (friend) on: Jun 18, 2016
