JOHN (JACK) HUNTER August 3, 1928 - June 16, 2016 On June 16, 2016, Jack passed away peacefully at Deer Lodge Centre at the age of 87. He will be remembered by Joyce, his wife of 58 years, his daughter Susan (Lawrence), his son Bill, his grandson Alex, his sister Nancy his sisters-in-law, Betty and Lil, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Jack was predeceased by his parents, Sarah and William and his brother Bill. Jack was born in Scotland and grew up in the town of Kelty, Fife. In 1946, he joined the British Army and served in Ceylon. In 1954 with his best friend Donald, he immigrated to Canada and settled in Winnipeg. He met Joyce (the love of his life) and married in 1958. Jack worked at Canada Safeway as a meat cutter for more than 35 years and retired in 1991. His retirement was filled with many great times with family and friends. Jack was a member of the St. James Lawn Bowling Club. Jack was a family man and was always there to help everyone. He was quiet and polite with a witty sense of humour. He loved a good joke and maintained that sense of humour to the end. Jack enjoyed trips to the family cottage at Ponemah. He loved music (especially opera), gardening, sports and travelling, including trips home to Scotland and to see family in Australia. He will be sadly missed by all. The family would like to thank the staff of Home Care and Deer Lodge Centre 5th floor East for their loving care. A celebration of Jack's life will be held at Immanuel United Church, 755 Golspie Street at Kimberley Avenue on Thursday, June 23, at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Immanuel United Church, Deer Lodge Centre or a charity of choice.
