CARLA JANE ELLA MCLEOD Peacefully, with family by her side, Carla Jane Ella McLeod passed away on June 18, 2016, in Winnipeg. Carla is survived by her daughter Jane McLeod, son-in-law Marc Pinchin, grandchildren, Ruby and James Pinchin, as well as several cousins and extended family. She is predeceased by her parents, James and Alma McLeod (nee Otto) and her brother James David Hamilton McLeod. Carla was born May 20, 1942, in Winnipeg and grew up in Elmwood. She attended Lord Selkirk School, Elmwood High and St. John's College, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She worked for the Winnipeg Tribune as a journalist and for the Province of Manitoba in the Communications Department. She met and fell in love with fellow journalist Peter Desbarats and moved to Ottawa where Jane was born. She relocated to Winnipeg in 1980 after her father's death. Carla freelanced for the Winnipeg Free Press until she started working for the Department of Education as a speechwriter for the Minister. Her career came full circle when she returned to the Communications Department for the Province of Manitoba. It was a job she loved, in a building she felt privileged to work in, the Legislative Building. She retired in 2004 which gave her the freedom to indulge her many interests, particularly spending time with her grandchildren, attending the ballet and the theatre, as well as being an avid Fringer. Memorial service to be held at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue, on Saturday, June 25, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. Interment will take place at a later date at Elmwood Cemetery. A special thank you to the staff of Concordia Place Personal Care Home and the Emergency Room staff at Concordia Hospital for the excellent care they provided Mom.
