Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKENNETH (KASMAR) THEODORE MAREK Kenneth Marek passed away peacefully on June 22, 2016 at the Portage General District Hospital after a two year battle with cancer. Ken was a loving and devoted husband, father and "Gigi". He leaves to mourn his wife Phyllis after 43 years of marriage; his son Trevor (Linda) of Morden; his daughter Colleen of Winnipeg; and his granddaughters, Leah, Katelyn and Alyssa. Ken was born and raised in the RM of Brokenhead, Manitoba to George and Rose Marek (Bukoski). He was the youngest of ten children, proud to be Polish and thoroughly enjoyed life in a large family. He was predeceased by his siblings, Mike in 2004, Emily 2006, Kay 2008, Joe 2011, John 2015 and Stan 2015. He is survived by two sisters, Jean Prowse and Joyce Corbett (Arley); and brother Ed Marek (Vi) of Beausejour, Manitoba as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Ken attended the University of Manitoba graduating with a degree in Pharmacy in 1968. He was owner and operator of Community Drugs in Steinbach from 1972 to 1993 then at Hill's Drug Store in Portage La Prairie from 1995 until 2015. Ken was loved and respected by the people he worked with who have been a wonderful support during his final illness. Ken has been active in the community and enjoyed serving others. He participated in the Kinsman Club of Steinbach and the Lions Club of Portage la Prairie, showing the kind of humour and wise insight we will miss so much. Ken loved puttering in the garden at home and if that wasn't enough he would spend hours doing the same at his cabin. Ken loved "the Cabin", it was always a place he could relax, rest and enjoy many hours with his wife, children and granddaughters. Ken accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Saviour as a child and from early on knew his gift was to serve others. Dad leaves an inspiring legacy of faith in Jesus, service to the community and love for others. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Lions Club of Portage La Prairie, Manitoba. A special thank you to the Doctors and Nurses at the Portage General District Hospital for their many acts of care and compassion for Ken during his illness. Viewing and Prayers will take place at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday June 29 at Good Shepherd Roman Catholic Church. A service to celebrate Ken's life will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 30 at Good Shepherd Roman Catholic Church at 1125 Saskatchewan Ave E, Portage la Prairie, MB. Ken gave me my first job working at Community Drugs in Steinbach. Ken was a great boss and had patience to explain so many things. I know many people in the community valued his expertise. - Posted by: Rachel Lachnit (nee Poels) (Past Employee) on: Jun 27, 2016

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I only met Ken a few times in Buffalo Point but he always brightened my day when he stopped in for a chat. My prayers are with you. -Tom - Posted by: Tom Zihrul () on: Jun 25, 2016
