Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDR. TERENCE GINN JOLLY May 19, 1928 June 8, 2016 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Husband, Dad, Grandpa and Papa GG in Calgary. Dad was born in Carrickfergus, Co. Antrim, N. Ireland. He took his medical training at Queen's University, Belfast and, upon graduation, went to Fiji where he spent 4½ years before heading back to Carrick with his expanded family. In 1957 he brought his family to Canada. He had practices in Eastport and Gander, NL before coming to Manitoba. In Winnipeg, he had a successful family medicine practice. He later worked for the federal government and developed a love for the high arctic while working for Occupational Health. In his medical career he was incredibly respected as both a doctor and public speaker. Dad left an impact on everyone he met and was not afraid to voice his opinions regardless of where he was, but earned him the respect of those who knew him. From his youth as a Boy Scout, he had a passion for camping and nature. He was incredibly fit. Going for a walk nearly became a solitary activity because no one could keep up with him! As an older man, he hiked the West Coast Trail many times and walked the Chilkoot Trail in the Yukon alone at the age of 71. He belonged to several hiking groups in Nanaimo, where he and Mum retired in 1996, before moving to Calgary last July. Dad was a voracious reader and had a huge, eclectic library. He was also a poet and would regale family and friends with his poetry, sonnets in particular. His life experiences allowed him to be an incredibly amusing story teller. Up to the end, he loved to entertain his grandchildren and great-grandchildren with tales of his escapades. Dad saw the world through the lens of a committed Christian. He was involved in all the churches he attended in Canada and was very principled in his beliefs. His strong faith helped him accept his Alzheimer's diagnosis. Throughout his life, his incredible devotion, loyalty and love for Mum was admired by all the family. They were friends for 70 years and were married for almost 64. He will be missed by his wife Sally (Sarah), his daughters Denise MacRae (Scott) and Moira Doerksen (Norm); grandchildren: David, Kevin and Sean (Winnipeg) and Sarah and Rebekah (Calgary) and nine great-grandchildren. A Memorial service has been held in Calgary. Friends are invited to a celebration in honour of Dad on June 28, 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul's Anglican Church (830 North Drive) Those wishing to make donations in Terry's name may do so to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.

I have been searching for the name of a medical practitioner who did reconstructive surgery on my mother's fractured hip. This was done at St. Boniface Hospital in 1982. Many times I wanted to thank the doctor but we were not from Winnipeg and I was not able to locate him. I believe he practiced at the St. Boniface Clinic. I would appreciate knowing, just to satisfy myself, if this was Dr. Terrence Jolly. We did not return to Winnipeg for post operative care so once my mother was turned over to a hospitalist, I did not see him again. If this was Dr. Terrence Jolly, I guess better late than never to say thank you for his wonderful care and compassion. - Posted by: Donna Mansfield (Patients daughter) on: Feb 18, 2023

He delivered my 3 children& i remember the next morning after the delivery of the first child he paid me a visit with something rattling behind his back. It was a baby rattle from the girls. Terry was a truly delightful person who filled a room whenever he entered. I last worked with Terry when he was the Rector (leader)of a cursillo weekend in Cedar, BC. He and Sally were extremely hospitable and when they lived in Nanaimo, I looked forward to special evening whenever I visited from Winnipeg. Winnipeg is where I first met this amazing couple and enjoyed his many stories, especially when related to the church. There is no doubt in my mind that all those in heaven will also find Terry to be one of God's chosen people. - Posted by: Jon Toogood (Frient, fellow Christian, and family financial planner.) on: Jun 25, 2016

When I was a child of eight, Dr. Jolly was our family doctor. I was terrified of him and everything about him, because he had, you, know, NEEDLES and such whenever he seemed to appear! A particularly vivid recollection that I have is of a booster shot that needed to be given, and he came to our home to administer it to my siblings and me. When his car appeared in the drive, I shot out the door and raced around the back, only to be headed off at the pass by my Mum - okay - run around the other way and into the house - where Dr. Jolly was waiting - made a grab for me, sat me down, and whipped that shot in while I was still panting from all the effort it took out of my little lungs! Upon reading his obituary, I can not help but marvel at the life he led, his compassion for his patients, as well as many other lives in this world. My thoughts and prayers are with his family in their loss. He was well-named - Jolly he was, and jolly he will always be in my memory. Thank you. - Posted by: Sandrina Cameron (Patient) on: Jun 25, 2016
