GEORGE R. DRUMMOND It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of George Robertson Drummond, on May 23, 2016. He was surrounded by his loving wife Betty and his daughters, Debra and Karen. George was predeceased by his parents, Annie and Hugh Drummond, sister Marge and brother-in-law Cliff Gallop, whom he thought of as a brother. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 37 years, Betty; daughters, Debra (Jack) Baetsen, Karen Ausmus; grandchildren, Andrew Baetsen and Amanda (Peter) Bowyer. He also leaves behind his great-grandchildren, Ethan and Hayley Bowyer, who brought rays of sunshine into his life. Also left to miss him are the big, loud and loving Thompsons and Caron/Kleysen extended families. George attended schools in the St. Boniface and Norwood areas and went on to obtain a degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Manitoba. He worked for several companies in Winnipeg and San Diego. After 25 years with Manitoba Hydro, he retired in 1988. Upon retirement, George had time to indulge in his hobbies - photography, oil painting, pencil sketching, designing and making guitars, woodworking and wood carving. Of all his hobbies, his passion was for woodworking. He crafted many guitars, wall clocks for family members, a walnut jewellery box for Betty, love spoons for their niece Laura when she was married. His last woodworking creations were four beautiful oak Grandmother wall clocks, with Swiss movements and detailed floral engravings on each side. His work was exquisite and made with love. Family meant everything to George. His love for Betty was infinite and they were blessed. A family celebration of George's life has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 1160-675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9, Riverview Heath Centre, 3E Palliative Care Unit, One Morley Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3L 2P4 or a charity of your choice.
