Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARTIN JOSEPH GOFFARD Martin passed away at the age of 82, in his home, on June 19, 2016. He was predeceased by his first wife Norma, parents John and Lillian, brothers Stephen and Leo, and foster sister Patsy. Left to mourn are his wife Eleanor, four children, four stepchildren, seven grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, three great-step-grandchildren, and Patsy's family. Born on March 10, 1934 near Rorkton, MB, he was cared for by foster parents Mr. and Mrs. Gee, Mr. and Mrs. Krohn, and Mr. and Mrs. Duchesneau. He attended St. Pauls College, and in 1951 joined the R.C.A.F. Following the military, he worked at Paulin-Chambers Candies, and as a cloth cutter. From 1959 to 1990, he delivered for Canada Post until retirement. On December 21, 1957 he married Norma May Anderson and had four children. Together they published "The Charleswood Post" a local news publication. He also helped found the "Charleswood in Motion Days". In 1972 the family moved to Hazelridge, MB where he organized the annual Hazelridge fair. He was an executive member of the Royal Canadian Legion, and the Knights of Columbus. Martin owned several small businesses as well. He was active in curling, skating, photography, stamp collecting and 4-H. On June 30, 1984, Martin married his second wife Eleanor Jean Johnson (nee Stonehouse). Together they attended St. Mary Magdalene Church, and enjoyed dancing and socializing. They participated with Chimo clowns in local parades. They worked on their family trees too. Martin really lit up at family holidays and enjoyed goofing around to make people laugh. Fortunately in 2015, he was able to take a trip west to visit family and meet his great-grandchildren. Martin will be missed, but the family feels blessed that he did not suffer and was able to live out his days at home with the woman he loved. Service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at St. Mary Magdalene Church, 3 St. Vital Rd.
