PAULA HENRY 1921 - 2016 On a beautiful Wednesday evening, June 15, 2016, Paula Henry passed away peacefully at Concordia Hospital. Her family, Chyrle and Mike, were with her to share in her special moment of leaving to be in Heaven with her daughter Pamela Jean and her husband Kenneth Ward. Her son Robert and daughter-in-law Denine, said their goodbyes from San Diego, CA. Paula also leaves three grandsons, five great-grandchildren and many relatives and dear friends. During the Second World War, Paula served in the WAF as a balloon barrage specialist and as an instrument mechanic supervisor for automatic pilot controls. After the war, she came to Winnipeg in 1948 as a war bride. She was an extremely strong woman through the war, the move to Canada and in the entire time she lived. She showed her caring and loving ways many times over to her friends and family. She was the rock when she had to be and at the same time the most loving, understanding parent any child could have. With her guidance, her three children grew up to be loving, sensitive, yet very strong individuals. Mom was very involved in politics and was an honoured life member of the Manitoba PC party. She also loved being active, whether it was in fundraising drives or door knocking for worthy causes. Even into her sixties and seventies she organized dances, singing groups and choirs. She also taught fitness classes and enjoyed her travels to England, Europe, across Canada and into the USA. Even into her eighties and nineties she continued to be a vibrant participant in recreational activities in the assisted living facility and in her personal care home. Cremation has taken place. In a few weeks a party will be held celebrating Paula's life and the wonderful people who made her life so special. You had a great life, Mom! We love you and will miss you forever!

I met Paula when I was a supervisor/hostess at Concordia Village. I liked this charming beautiful lady right from the start. There wasn`t a day she never complimented me. At that time she would put her hair in a french roll and looked oh so lovely. She was classy in every way.We both loved pearls. She invited me to her ninetieth birthday party put on by family. It was special I met her longtime girlfriend. She loved her party and talked about it for weeks after. No one was ever bored sitting with this lovely lady. I feel by the time I left Concordia Village we had become friends. She was special never dwelling on her own health problems always concerned of others. My condolences to her family....she was very proud of you! - Posted by: Lynne (friend) on: Jul 17, 2016

I am deeply saddened to hear of the loss of such a wonderful lady. Mrs H.(this is what we always referred to her by) was always very kind to me and it's never been forgotten. I'm sure you are chatting up a storm in heaven. My deepest sympathy to the family. - Posted by: Mary Sutherland (Long time family friend ) on: Jun 29, 2016

Dear Michael, Cheryl and Robert, When I heard about the news of your mother's passing, I was deeply moved as I knew her to be my Grandma Paula. She nurtured and cared for me with all her heart, always opening her door to the little girl next door who loved spending time with her knitting, wearing her wigs, watching afternoon soap operas and having tea and sandwiches prepared for me with love. My entire family felt like Paula was family. Sometimes friends become family and that was definitely true in our case with knowing your extraordinary and genuine mother. When I saw her last, she remembered me, told me some of the things she was currently standing up for because her voice had to be heard, and we reminisced. I will never forget her. She will always hold a place in my heart. Deepest condolences, Bonnie Slobodian (Vermeylen) and family - Posted by: Bonnie Slobodian (Grandma Paula's neighbour) on: Jun 26, 2016
