NORMAN JOHN LACEY
Born: Mar 14, 1930
Date of Passing: Jun 23, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryNORMAN JOHN LACEY March 14, 1930 - June 23, 2016 Norman passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 23, 2016 at Golden Door Geriatric Centre. Norm will be sadly missed by his loving wife Dorothy, of 67 years, his three sons, Donald (Linda) of Lethbridge, James (Sheila) of Burlington and Robert (Bonny) of Welland, and his daughter Pamela Randall (Wayne) of Saskatoon, as well as eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Norm was predeceased by his parents, Edward George and Maud Lacey and his two brothers, Harold (Lilyan) and Ted (Margaret). Norm had an inquisitive mind and was always wanting to learn and apply new ideas within the broadcasting industry. He was employed with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in radio and television for 38 years, where he succeeded in several leadership positions in Winnipeg, Calgary, Toronto and Saskatoon, including Director of Radio for the CBC. Norm's professional life afforded him the opportunity to work closely with political leaders across Canada. He continually told and retold his many adventures within broadcasting, highlighting the dedicated, colourful colleagues who shared in his professional career. Norm retired from the CBC in 1986 and moved back to his birthplace, Winnipeg, to share life with Dorothy, family and friends. Norm continued to have a keen interest in news and current events throughout his life. Norm was an avid student of history, especially as it related to wars and political change throughout the world in the first half of the 20th century. Although he was too young to enlist in the Second World War, Norm joined the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders of Canada reserves shortly after the war. He served as a captain in that regiment throughout his younger years, which in turn, produced many more colourful characters and stories. Our family extends deep appreciation to the staff at Golden Door for their kind, gentle and professional service to Dad throughout the past two years. They extended to Dad an excellence of service that contributed to a dignified and meaningful life. According to his wishes, Norm will be cremated and interred in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens close to family. A private family service will follow later in the summer. We will love and miss you Dad, but we find comfort in the knowledge that your mind is now free.

It's sad that the last of the Lacey brothers is gone. Ted, Dad (Harold), and now Norm. Fortunately the Lacey boys have left an appropriate legacy behind. A bunch of other Lacey boys will carry on. I am sorry for your loss, to all of the Lacey Family. - Posted by: Brian, Lori and Branden Lacey (Nephew) on: Jul 07, 2016

Most of my childhood memories in Mississauga involved the Laceys. Norm and Dot were always fun and welcoming to their home. I extend deepest sympathies from the entire Trainor family. Rest easy Norm... - Posted by: Mary Trainor Claridge (Family Friend) on: Jul 03, 2016

Our thoughts go out to Dot and the family. We know it must be very hard for her, 67 years of marriage would hold a lot of memories and love. Love Gary, Kerry, and Kaitlin Snell - Posted by: Gary and Kerry Snell (Extended Family) on: Jul 02, 2016
