IRENE PARADIS It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Irene Paradis, on Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at the Grace Hospital, at the age of 86 years. Irene was predeceased by her husband Normand, parents Friedrich and Wilhemine Becker, her brothers Willi, Karl, Ken, and sister Dorothy Riechel. She is survived by her three children David (Kim), Brian (Gina), and Sandra (Timothy) Anderson, her three grandchildren Ryan (Kazia), Kaitlyn (Brett) Blanco, and Dylan, sister Brigitte (Paul) Vouk, and brother Dieter (Anorah) Becker, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Irene was born June 24, 1930 on a farm in Waltersheim, Poland, the oldest daughter of a loving family of seven children. She spent most of her young life in Eichenbruck, and towards the end of the Second World War, when she was 15 years old, she fled the advancing Soviet army with her mother, sisters, and infant brother, eventually being re-united with her father and older brother, Ken at the end of the war. The family came to Canada in 1948 and settled in Winnipeg where Irene met her husband Normand, was married in 1953, and enjoyed 60 years of a happy marriage. Irene enjoyed baking, making jellies from the trees in her yard, and sending treats home with visitors. She also loved to plant flowers, and her home and yard was full of plants and greenery. Irene's family was very important to her and she treasured spending time with them. She loved the tradition of regular family dinners, especially after her grandchildren were born, and was famous for her roast chicken and purple cabbage. Irene had a deep faith in God and this sustained her in difficult times. She was a faithful member of the Crestview Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses and enjoyed the time with her spiritual brothers and sisters at weekly meetings and in her public ministry. She drew comfort from the Bible's promise of a time "... where death will be no more, neither will mourning ... nor pain be anymore", and where she could enjoy everlasting life in paradise on earth. Special thanks to the caring nurses and doctors at Grace Hospital 3rd floor, and especially to the many visitors who brightened Irene's days during her time in the hospital. Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., Monday, July 4 at the Crestview Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 325 Wallasey Street in Winnipeg. Shortly before she passed away, Irene's faith and trust was with God as she quoted Isaiah 41:13 in prayer, "For I, Jehovah your God am grasping your right hand, the one saying to you Do not be afraid. I will help you'.".
