Emma leaves to mourn her husband Merv, her children, Susan (Bryan Cote), David (Anne), Judi (Allan Barry), her precious grandchildren, Matthew and Colleen Cote, Chris (Megan) and Nick Moxley, Anna (Corey McCarthy) and Evan (Donna Fontaine) and nine wonderful great-grandchildren, Joshua Gasenzer, Sadie Moxley, Christian, Avery and Madi McCarthy, Alexis, Xavier, Jaden deBeer and Zack Barry. Mom was raised on Redwood Avenue and left school early to work at the Northern shirt factory. She met Merv while working in the elevators at Eaton's. They were married on October 4, 1947. By 1953, she was Mom to three children. Emma and the kids spent summers at Falcon Lake from 1956 to 1972. Mom loved being active, she played baseball, golfed, curled, bowled, water skied, and shot trap and skeet. As well, she was active in the Shrine with Merv and was a member of the Daughters of the Nile for 49 years. She worked for a few years outside the home but took on a bigger role as Grandma when the grandchildren started arriving in 1979. All of the grandchildren, and later, the great-grandchildren learned to swim in the family pool. Mom also did all the pool maintenance until she was in her early 80s. Mom loved music and could play the organ, accordion and harmonica. All her grandchildren and great-grandchildren have been entertained by her repertoire of kid's songs. In the last year, Mom enjoyed attending the Prime program at Deer Lodge Centre before being admitted to St. Norbert Personal Care home in May, 2016. The family would like to thank the staff at Prime, St. Norbert Personal Care Home and the Victoria General Hospital Emergency and 5 North, for their care and compassion. A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, July 12, 2016, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Khartum Shrine Centre, 1155 Wilkes Avenue. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Emma's memory to the Khartum Shriner's Patient Transportation Fund, 1155 Wilkes Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3P 1B9. Aunt Emma will always be remembered as a truly genuine and caring person. I remember when our families got together how very patient she was with us when we misbehaved. I also remember the delicious cheesecake she served when we visited. I appreciated, very much that Aunt Emma attended the funerals of my Dad (her brother-in-law) and also of my sister Vivian. Our sympathies go out to Uncle Merv and to the family Jim and Evelyn Livingston - Posted by: Jim and Evelyn Livingston (Nephew) on: Jul 09, 2016
