Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALAN ELLINTHORPE Alan Ellinthorpe passed away on July 4, 2016, in Santa Rosa, California. He was born in Winnipeg on September 20, 1928, to James Ellinthorpe (Preston, Lancashire) and Blanche Ellinthorpe (nee Ferguson from Hamiota, Manitoba). He graduated from Kelvin High School and the University of Manitoba (1950) with a degree in Physics. He married Gemma Northon in Montreal in 1952. He moved to the USA in 1956 with Gemma and first son James. Three more sons were born in the States, Robert, John and Walter. He obtained a master's degree in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University in 1962 by attending night school while working and raising a family. He had a distinguished career as an underwater sound physicist and engineer, mainly as a civilian employee of the US Navy. He was a recipient of many awards from the US and allied Navies, including the Distinguished Civilian Service Award. He is survived by Gemma, their four sons, and six grandchildren.
