LYNDY BEST 1922 - 2016 Alfred Lyndon Best "Lyndy", beloved husband of 71 years to Zoe, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2016. He leaves to cherish his memory, his son Lyndon "Skip" (Valerie), daughter Debra; brother John; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Lyndy was predeceased by his parents, Lyndon and Margaret Best; his sisters, Eileen (Hugh) McEwen and Kathleen (John) Barnes and his brother Gerald (Marilyn) Best. Lyndy served as a navigator in the R.C.A.F in the Second World War. He began and ended his 44 year career with the T. Eaton Company in Winnipeg having served in many managerial capacities in Moose Jaw, Regina, and North Battleford. Lyndy enjoyed golfing, curling and singing in barbershop quartets. His community commitments included memberships in Rotary, Kiwanis, Moose Jaw Military Institute, Moose Jaw Family Services and the Regina Emergency Measures Organization. The latter two included Board participation. After retirement Lyndy and Zoe became "snowbirds", during which they found their passion for square dancing. They made their home in Medicine Hat in 2004 where Lyndy continued his life of generosity, kindness and friendship to everyone. He was a gentleman blessed with endless Irish wit and will sorely be missed at family gatherings that he loved so very much. His family wishes to extend heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Home Care and to all the Hospital and Health Care staff on the 6th floor of the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital for their compassionate care. At Lyndy's request, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. A private celebration of life for immediate family will be held in British Columbia. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Medicine Hat Canadian Mental Health Association, 204 - 1865 Dunmore Road S.E., Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 1Z8. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • We are so sorry to hear of Lyndy's passing. Our thoughts are with Zoe and her family at this difficult time. We miss seeing them so much since their move and I have so many fond memories of Lyndy visiting dad (Don Fleming) at home in Headingley. I know that mom and dad also miss you! - Posted by: Sandy & Terry Spence (Friends) on: Jul 13, 2016

  • Uncle Lyndy will be sorely missed as a special and kind man who always had excellent and limitlessly humourous stories to share with whomever would listen. Thank you for all the great memories and service to our great country. With our love... - Posted by: Scott McEwen (Son of Don and Grace McEwen (Calgary)) on: Jul 09, 2016
