DOREEN WEBB November 1, 1952 - July 1, 2016 It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Doreen Webb (nee Bullen) while visiting family in Guangzhou, China. She will be greatly missed by her husband of 42 years, Don; daughters, Deanne (John) and Laura (Steven); sons, Aaron (Joanna), and Andrew (Nikki); brothers, Doug and Bill (Janet); infant grandchildren, Lucas (Aaron), and Sophie (Deanne), and many family and friends. Doreen was born in Winnipeg to father William, and mother Jenny. She attended several different schools before arriving at St. James Collegiate, where she met her future husband, Don, and many lifelong friends. After marriage in 1974, she worked several clerical jobs, until the birth of their first child in 1979. In motherhood, Doreen found her true calling in life, and would go on to become a surrogate mother for many of her children's friends, foreign exchange students, and anyone who offered her the time of day. Although she left the workforce to raise her four children, Doreen stayed involved in the community. She was an active member of the church, childbirth educator, and La Leche league leader, which met regularly in the family basement. Summers were spent at Star Lake in the family cottage, where the family could be found on the beach surrounded by friends and Tonka trucks. After her last child started elementary school, she attained certification in massage therapy while maintaining her role as a full time mother. After back issues forced her to stop practicing, she joined the St. James School Division as a teacher's aide. It was during this time that Doreen noticed a need for after school programming, and took the initiative to start a drop-in centre for youth in the community, which still runs to this day. After officially retiring in 2013, Doreen was able to focus ever more on her family. Although she suffered from significant mobility issues, she never let this get in the way of traveling. She spent time with her children in southern Africa, Europe, Australia, and traveled many times to China where Deanne works as a school teacher. Over the last two years, Doreen took on her greatly anticipated and impatiently-awaited role of Grandma. She literally traveled to the ends of the earth to spend time with her grandchildren. Amongst the greatest gifts that Doreen bestowed on those around her were tolerance, and unconditional love. She was at her happiest while hosting family dinners, which notoriously stretched late into the evening. A celebration of Doreen's life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 23 at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue (across from Brookside Cemetery). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com
