JAMES HECTOR
Born: Jul 26, 1929
Date of Passing: Jul 07, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJAMES (GLEN) HECTOR Peacefully, on July 7, 2016, Glen Hector passed away with his family by his side. Glen was predeceased by his parents, James and Jean; his siblings, Alec, Bob, Mary, and Betty; and his daughter-in-law Mary. Remaining to remember him lovingly are his wife of 60 years, Lois; his sister, Margaret; his sons, Ron (Laurie), Carl (Cathy), and Gerry (Laurie); his grandchildren, Emily, Olivia, and Andrew; and many nieces and nephews. Glen was born on July 26, 1929 to Scottish parents, and raised on Polson Avenue in Winnipeg's North End. He loved to roller skate, and in 1952, he met Lois at the Winnipeg Roller Rink; they married three years later, on August 27, 1955. Even as a child, it was apparent that Glen possessed a unique artistic gift. This natural talent evolved into his livelihood, and he spent 43 years working as a commercial artist at Bulman Bros. A former member of the Winnipeg Sketch Club and the Good Neighbours Carving Club, Glen continually awed us with his creations; he paid reverential attention to his surroundings, bringing the quiet beauty of historic churches and homesteads to life. His special patience and thoughtful nature, which were traits that informed every aspect of his life, shine through in the contemplative watercolours he painted. In his retirement, Glen also enjoyed square dancing, curling, bowling, bus trips across Canada and the United States, and playing cards. He especially loved tending his flower garden. He delighted his grandchildren with his creative skill, and they cherished the ornaments, festive windows displays, and carvings that he gifted them over the years. Above all, it was our family's immense privilege to learn from Glen's modesty and gentleness. By soaking in his humble, sweet presence, we came to understand the virtues of tolerance and tenderness, and hope to emulate the goodwill he always showed others. We are left changed by his bright example, and will always be grateful for it. The family also thanks the home care workers and staff of St. Boniface Hospital's Palliative Care Unit for their compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Immanuel United Church or a charity of choice. A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 14, at Immanuel United Church, 755 Golspie St. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com
