Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJEAN LUPKY July 12, 1918 - July 11, 2016 Peacefully on July 11, 2016, Jean Lupky, one day prior to her 98th birthday, passed away at Tudor House in Selkirk, Manitoba. Jean was a beloved wife, mother, baba and sister. Jean was born to Ukrainian immigrants, Peter and Tekla Bidochka in Shorncliffe, Manitoba in 1918, where she helped care for her nine siblings. She was predeceased by her parents, her brothers, John, Nick, Tony and Metro Bidochka, her sisters, Kay Barylski, Ann Maksymchuk, and Pearl Fedora, her brothers-in-law Michael Maksymchuk, John Barylski, Mike Fedora and Walter Chomokovski, and her sister-in-law, Julie Bidochka. Surviving is her brother Mike Bidochka, and sister Olga Chomokovski. Jean was a loving wife to her husband Mike Lupky who passed away in November 1992. Jean and Mike were married on November 21, 1940 and raised three children on a farm in Progress, Manitoba. Jean's days were spent gardening, preserving, tending to a variety of livestock and helping out with all the never-ending chores of the farm. Jean baked the best homemade bread, churned her own butter and handmade her own feather quilts and pillows. In 1974, Jean and Mike left the farm and moved to Riverton, Manitoba where they spent the next 18 years of their lives together, before Mike passed away in November of 1992. In 2001, Jean moved to Sunrise Lodge in Arborg, Manitoba and 10 years later to Tudor House in Selkirk. Left to mourn her loss and forever cherish her memory are her children Joe (Olga) Lupky of Shorncliffe, MB, Ann Rozecki (predeceased by her son-in-law John Rozecki) of Riverton, MB, and Katie (Tony) Deneka of Okno, MB. "Baba Jean" had a special relationship with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who could never leave a visit without a cookie or a candy and hearing how much they were loved. She will be missed by grandchildren Robert (Lisa) Deneka of Winnipeg, MB, Marianne (David) Sumka of Arborg, MB, Gladys (Bradley) Hokanson of Fort McMurray, AB, Lance (Sandy) Rozecki of Winnipeg, MB, Boyd (Sherry) Rozecki of Riverton, MB, Crystal (Patrick) Kennedy of Winnipeg, MB and Michael (Holly) Lupky of Arborg, MB as well as her great-grandchildren, Alex, Conner, Morgan, Madison, Hunter, Carter, Kailyn, Bryce, Lane, Brandon, Drew, Blair, Evan and Chelsea. Baba was a strong, kind woman who never complained and appreciated the efforts and kindness of everyone around her. She always had plenty of food on the table and an abundance of hospitality to anyone who entered her home. It was impossible to not be drawn in by her warmth, which was evident in the last days as we watched the staff of Tudor House care for her with such tenderness and say goodbye with such emotion. The family would like to thank the staff at Tudor House for creating a "home" for Baba and treating her so well. A service will be held to celebrate Jean's life at the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel in Arborg, MB, on Friday, July 15 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jean's memory to a charity of your choice.
