KINGSLEY RUPERT GUNASEKERA On July 5, 2016, Kingsley Rupert Gunasekera slipped away peacefully from this world into the waiting arms of his Lord Jesus Christ, whom he loved so dearly while on earth. Kingsley's memory will be forever cherished by the love of his life, best friend and wife of 48 years, Blossom; by his daughter Shiny; by his grandson Joshua; by his sisters, (Rani, Kusuma, Vinitha, Sita and Chandra) and brothers-in-law (Sri-Lanka) and by his many friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Arnolis and Mary Gunasekera, his brother and four sisters. Kingsley was born in Galle, Sri-Lanka on June 11, 1942. After graduating from university with a degree in engineering, he moved to Germany with his bride, to further his studies. In 1980, they began life anew in Winnipeg, MB, where they made cherished, life-long friendships. In 2008, the couple moved to Hamilton, ON, to be near their daughter and her family. Kingsley worked as an engineer for the private sector, as well as for the Department of National Defense; he ended his professional career by teaching at the University of Manitoba. He was highly respected for his integrity, excellence, keen mind and unusual giftedness at almost whatever he put his hand to. He also loved to laugh and make others laugh. His greatest legacy however was his devotion to his family. A wonderful provider and a faithful protector, he deeply and sacrificially cherished his wife and daughter. No girl could have asked for a more adoring or amazing father. The crowning joy of his life was undoubtedly his little grandson Joshua, on whom he doted. Kingsley displayed great courage in life, approaching adversity with wisdom and hope. His trust in the absolute faithfulness of his Lord Jesus was unshakable and anchored his life. He grew up as a devout Buddhist; in search of meaning in young adulthood, Kingsley discovered the reality of Jesus Christ. This began a life-long love and devotion that only deepened in the weeks prior to his death. He was fully persuaded that nothing could separate him from the love of God and, so for him, to live was Christ and to die was gain. This beautiful man was deeply loved and will be greatly missed but we know his faith has now become sight. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Bethel Gospel Tabernacle Church, 1355 Upper Wellington Street at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 14, 2016. On-line condolences may be left at www.cresmountfennellchapel.com.
