DOROTHY PEARL NAISH (nee SARGENT) Dorothy Pearl Naish (nee Sargent) passed away peacefully on March 1, 2016 at Birchwood Terrace in Kenora, ON, where she had moved to be near family. Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Margaret Elyk of Kenora; her grandchildren, Aaron Elyk, Leah Thomas and Andrea Elyk; great-grandchildren, Austin, Anna, Lily, Benjamin and Cole. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Charlie, her parents and siblings, son-in-law Bill Elyk and her good friend and companion Donald Fraser. Dorothy, daughter of Richard and Edith Sargent, was born on October 14, 1923, on the family farm in the Swan River Valley. Dorothy attended Lidstone School for her early education and Swan River High School. After receiving her high school diploma, she attended Normal School, where she earned her teaching certificate. Following her graduation, she returned to the Swan River area to begin her teaching career. Dorothy married Charlie Naish in 1946. They lived in Kamsack, SK, subsequently moving to Oxbow, SK and ending up in Maryfield, SK, where she and Charlie owned a hardware store until his passing in 1960. Following his passing, Dorothy and their daughter moved to Winnipeg, where she began her teaching career at Varennse School in St. Vital. During her retirement, Dorothy enjoyed working part-time at Lewiscraft, where she was able to showcase her talent as a gifted knitter. Dorothy enjoyed curling with the St. Vital teachers, which she continued into her retirement. She also enjoyed golfing, dancing with the St. Vital Seniors and painting with her art group. She created many beautiful oil and water colour paintings, many of which are cherished by friends and family. She also enjoyed a good card game and continued to play Bridge with her friends into her 90's. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Meadowood United Church, 1111 Dakota Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer's Society would be greatly appreciated by the family.
