KEVIN CONRAD SLATER With profound sadness we announce Kevin's passing, on Sunday, July 10, 2016 at the age of 54 years. Left to cherish his memory is his wife Laurie and their children, Alexander and Lisa as well as his brother John (Sandy) and special cousin Diane Deleau (Rob). He also leaves his mother- in-law Janice (Paul); sister-in-laws, Rae (Kevin), Carrie (Dale); and brother-in-law Troy (Jen). Uncle Buddy was special to his nephews Keegan, Kassidy, Mathieu and niece Maddison. He will be missed by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was predeceased by his father Frank, mother Mary, brother Murray and father-in-law Mickey Schwab. Kevin graduated from Teulon Collegiate and went on to complete Hotel and Restaurant Management at Red River College. He worked for many years with Gordon Hotels, Sandman Hotel and then Phoenix Soccer Club. Kevin's most cherished memories were from spending time with family and friends. His younger years were spent with family participating in sports, tinkering anything mechanical, hunting and attending large family gatherings. He carried these values into his adult life with his own family. He was a familiar face in the community whether he was coaching football while his son played, volunteering at the local community clubs or watching his daughter play hockey. He was most happy spending time at the lake with his family and teaching his kids to fish. He played spongee hockey with the same cast of characters for 23 years. Kevin was known for great story-telling and great sense of humour. He was famous for his one-liners and zingers. He found humour in any situation and this became the best medicine for him and those around him. Special thanks to Dr. Ralph Wong and the amazing staff at HSC A5 ward and SICU, who recognized he was a character and showed us great kindness and compassion. A memorial service was held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, July 15, 2016 at Soul Sanctuary, 2050 Chevrier Boulevard. In lieu of flowers, the family ask you to consider donating to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3E 0V9 as this important work allowed Kevin more time with his family. My dad was a very kind respectful funny person he always took me to my hockey games/practices. I loved him with all my heart and I love him still. I really miss watching the NHL games with him now and then. but now he doesn't have to go through the pain and surgery's anymore. I got to see him everyday in the mornings until my mom said we should stay home for now on so it won't be upsetting to see him. When I woke up 3 days after, my mom told me the bad news, that my dad passed away. It felt like my heart broke in two and would never heal, It all seemed like a horrible dream but it wasn't. its incredibly tough without him. I miss everything about him his laugh his voice his smell his beard. -He will be missed by his family - Posted by: lisa slater (daugter) on: Oct 04, 2016

I am saddened to hear of Kevin's untimely passing. Kevin and I coached together a few years ago when our sons played for the Fort Garry Lions Football minor football team. It was my pleasure to get to know Kevin, and I found him to be a calm and steady presence during the work of practice and the excitement of games. Kevin adeptly kept track of our team's in game roster rotation/movements, an underappreciated but challenging and often stressful job that showed his poise and organizational skill. Amidst the excitement and earnest intensity of a minor football season, Kevin was quick to add perspective to the day with his wry smile and keen sense of humour, as a coach, and later on as a proud parent at the football field or soccer pitch. His contributions to his community and to his family are praiseworthy, and he will be dearly missed. - Posted by: Greg Jowett (Football coaching colleague) on: Jul 18, 2016
