THELMA MAY SHEPPARD 1917 - 2016 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Thelma Sheppard. She slipped away peacefully in her sleep July 15, 2016. She is predeceased by her husband Gordon in 2002 and son Ken (Pat) in 2003. She is survived by her son Doug (Kathy) her grandchildren, Chris (Jen), Wendy, and Jen (Brett) and her great-grandchildren, Mike, Brandan, Riki, Jake, Ben and Brody. Thelma was born on November 22, 1917 in Killarney, MB. She lived on a family farm helping with chores and looking after her two Shetland ponies, which she harnessed to a sleigh or carriage to go to a one room school at Lions Hall. After completing school she joined the Air Force and served at Dunville, ON during the war. Upon returning to Winnipeg after the war, Mother took a job with the post office. While working at the post office, she met her true love Gordon Sheppard and they married February 7, 1947. About a year later they started their family with the arrival of Jack Douglas on March 4, 1948; after two years Kenneth Gordon arrived on February 13, 1950. In 1952, Gordon started a career with Memorial Gardens, which transferred the young family to Regina and then to the Maritimes for about four years, then back to Winnipeg, settling in Charleswood. Mother took on working for Perths and Holiday Haven and enjoyed many friends at the Charleswood Legion. Later years were spent in Sinawik Bay until Gordon's death in 2002. Mother then moved in with her son Doug for four years and finally to Heritage Lodge until her passing. Thelma was a kind, sweet lady with a smile for everyone. When she saw you she would smile, take your hand and give you the warmest welcome. She made everyone feel so special. In her day she loved to laugh, dance and have fun, enjoying her amber rum and coke. She was a real joy to all who knew her. She will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her family, friends and the staff at Heritage Lodge. We would like to thank all the staff at Heritage Lodge for their care and compassion over the years. A celebration of her life will be held at the Charleswood Legion (Tank Room) on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
