LEONARD FLETT
Born: Mar 20, 1943
Date of Passing: Jul 15, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLEONARD FLETT It is with unbearable heartache and sadness, with the love of family by his side, Leonard peacefully passed on July 15, 2016 at the Lakeshore General Hospital, Ashern MB. Dad was born on March 20, 1943 in Norway House, Manitoba to Donald and Muriel Flett. Dad left home at an early age to pursue employment. This took him to Warren's Landing where he worked for a few years at the Fish plant. From there he travelled to Grand Rapids, where he was employed by Gardewine and Sons prior to his final career with Manitoba Hydro for 34 years. He met and married Anne Cook and made Grand Rapids their home where they lovingly raised their five children. Throughout his life Dad had many interests. He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting, fishing and taking his family on many camping adventures. He involved himself in hockey and baseball, being both player and coach of the Native Sons. He also was a Manitoba Horseshoe Champion. Reading was also one of his greatest pleasures. There cannot be enough said of his love of curling and golf. Dad had a gift for music which played an integral part of his life and ours, as well as providing entertainment for many others. It wasn't unusual to find him strumming and singing in the comfort of his living room. Dad never limited himself to just his own interests. While employed with Manitoba Hydro he was a volunteer firefighter. Dad was the first Mayor of Grand Rapids for two terms, having to resign his second term due to his son's illness. Above all, family was the most important to him. Through years of commitment, support, encouragement and guidance he was always there for his children and grandchildren. Our lives will never be the same without you Dad, and you will be missed and lovingly remembered always. We will cherish the memories forever. Leonard was predeceased by his loving son Douglas Warren; his parents Donald and Muriel Flett; mother and father-in-law Neal and Charlotte Cook; his brother Bruce Flett, and his sister Barbara Mcleod. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Anne; his children April (John) Combs, Lloyd (Dawn) Flett, Pamela (William) Beardy and Tammy (Ryan) Ault; grandchildren Cody, Shayna, Cassandra, Douglas, Jesse, Timmy, Michael, Neal, Sarah, Jorja, Brittany, Kendra, Taryn, Lyndie, Geoffrey, Rylee and Joely; great-grandchildren Landen, Lanelle, Hannah, Klarissa, Tanner and Talon Leonard; sisters Mildred Arthurson and Lillian (Alex) Paupanekis; brother Joe (Lois) Smith, along with numerous nieces, nephews, family members and many good friends. The family would like to thank the Grand Rapids Nursing Station, Grand Rapids Ambulance Service, The Pas Health Complex, St. Boniface Hospital and the Asper Institute. Special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Lakeshore General Hospital for their supportive and compassionate care of our Dad. Wake services will be held at the Roman Catholic (RC) Hall in Grand Rapids starting at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, July 21 and continuing through Friday, July 22, 2016. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2016 with final viewing starting at 11:00 a.m. Church service to follow at 2:00 p.m. at the St. James Anglican Church. As per Dad's wishes, services will conclude at the church with cremation to follow and interment to be held at a later date. It was his final wish that he be laid to rest with his son Douglas. For those who would like, donations can be made in Dad's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, Suite 200, 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6.
