SHEILA BLACK
Born: Jun 12, 1927
Date of Passing: Jul 12, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySHEILA BLACK (nee OUTTERSIDE) It is with deep sadness that the family of Sheila announce her passing on July 12, 2016 at the age of 89. Sheila was born June 12, 1927 in Washington, England to Albert and Ellen (nee Weldon) Outterside. She was the youngest of their five children. Sheila had a spirit of adventure and a love of travel and in 1945 she joined the British Army Medical Corp. She was stationed throughout England, and later in Cyprus and Egypt. After leaving the forces she worked as a nursery nurse. In 1950 she married Tom and in 1954 she immigrated to Canada with her young daughter and husband. She was a long time employee of the Hudson Bay Company, working in the China Department, a job she enjoyed until her retirement. Sheila was predeceased by her mother Ellen, father Albert, and brothers George, Jim, Joe and Albert. She is survived by her husband Tom, daughters Glynis and Jane (Debbie), and many nieces and nephews and their families. Sheila had a love of, and genuine interest in, people and forged many close friendships over her 89 years. She was especially fond of her long-time friends Monica Bottoms of Washington, England and Jo-Anne Souyri of Winnipeg, both of whom she considered her daughters "by choice". In spite of having lost her mother as an infant, Mam never lost sight of the good in people. She maintained that although she did not have a mother, she was more than compensated by the kindness and generosity of people she met throughout her life. In this spirit, flowers are gratefully declined, and the family would ask that your generosity and kindness be extended to the next person you meet who is in need. A funeral mass will be held at Our Blessed Lady Immaculate Church, the Village, Washington, County Durham, England and she will be laid to rest with her father and brother George in keeping with her wishes. Tom and Family - I am saddened to read of Sheila's passing. Please know I'm thinking of you and sending prayers. My Mum and Dad (Bob and Jean Hardie) always enjoyed seeing you and Sheila at Safeway and catching each other up on family news. My Dad always considered you a good friend Tom - if he were still here you know he'd send his sympathy to you. God Bless. Jeanie Johnston - Posted by: Jeanie Johnston (Family friend) on: Jul 24, 2016
