VIDA RENE DAVISS (nee WIENS) October 10, 1915 - July 30, 2016 Peacefully, with her family by her side, Mom and Grandma Vi passed away. She is survived by her daughters, Alvie (John Morrison of Vancouver), Janice, and Judy (Rick Dryden); her granddaughters Cindy, Debbie, and Vicki (Dryden); sisters, Verna White and Ainslie Peach, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Ross Wiens. Vida lost the two great loves of her life, husband of 61 years Edward Daviss and very special friend of 11 years Fred Chafe. Mom was born in Swift Current, SK and lived on the homestead in Rush Lake until she was 5. The family then moved to Lowe Farm, MB. Mom came to Winnipeg to attend secretarial school. She met and married Ed at Young United Church. After the war, they moved into the house on Minnetonka Street, living there for 55 years. Throughout her life, Vida had many careers. While the girls were young, she worked as a temporary secretary, then moved on to going door to door doing market research surveys. Later in life she sold life insurance. Mom loved to entertain. The house was regularly a place for neighbourhood showers, cocktail parties, and Bridge nights. Mom especially liked hosting large family gatherings to mark special birthdays and anniversaries. There was always a bed and a dinner for family members passing through. Never one to sit still, Mom liked to travel. She and Dad went to Europe, Hawaii, the Caribbean, cruised to the Panama Canal and Alaska, and even paddle wheeled down the Mississippi. They covered most of Canada and much of the United States by car. After losing Dad in 2002, Mom moved herself into the Waverley. There she met Fred her best friend until his passing. Mom's final home was Vista Park Lodge. We want to thank all of her "darling, darling's for their care, compassion and good humour in putting up with the antics of an aging brain. Good-bye Mom. We love you. Rest in peace, after 100 years you deserve it! A celebration of Vida's life took place last October to mark her 100th birthday. There will be no service. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choice. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • My sympathies to cousins Alvie, Janice and Judy. We fondly remember Aunt Vi as a wonderful hostess when she kindly allowed our family with 3 little kids to stay the weekend when we lived in Northern MB in the "80's. Not easy for seniors! Always organized and very sharp, she was up to date with current events and always interested in many activities. Together with her brother Ross (my dad), they organized a family reunion in Montreal for Grandma Wiens' 80'th birthday. Eastern cousins met the Western family at Ross and Peggy's in Montreal. A backyard BBQ, Bingo and fun auction highlighted the day. Without Vi's influence the event would not have happened. Vi grew up in the Depression, when supplies were scarce, and never forgot those lessons. However, she also adapted to many changes, developed an active career for many years, as well as maintaining church and community connections. Aunt Vi has been an inspiration, and a woman ahead of her time in many ways. Lovingly remembered, Claudia Wiens-Loranger, Edmonton AB - Posted by: Claudia Wiens-Loranger (niece) on: Aug 08, 2016
