KENNETH MORGAN SCHMID July 29, 1931 - July 28, 2016 With love and sadness after a brief battle with cancer, we announce the passing of Ken Schmid. Left to mourn his passing are his loving wife Joyce (Odger) of 59 years; his children, Brenda (Tom), Sandy (Doug), Brian, Diane (Glenn), Deb, and Cindy; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was born in Ogema, Saskatchewan, one of seven brothers. He left home at the age of 16, traveled through the U.S. and Canada, finally settling in Winnipeg where he met Joyce while working at Eatons. Talented and resourceful, Ken worked various jobs before his 30 year career at Canada Post. Ken retired in 1988 and spent most of his summers at the cabin with his family and enjoyed many gambling excursions with friends. Following in his children's footsteps, Ken decided to attend University by donating his body to science (University of Manitoba). No formal funeral service will be held. The family would like to thank all the staff at Concordia Hospital for their compassion, respect, and heartfelt care. Special thanks to the Doctors and Nurses from Palliative Care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba.
