LORNE JAMES CHRISTIANSON June 14, 1932 - July 13, 2016 It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Lorne on July 13, 2016, at the age of 84 years. He is survived by his children, Hal, Lorna and Loree; his wife Marilyn and her children, Bob Reidy (Day); grandsons, Carson, Mitchell and Everett; and daughter Alison Reidy. Also left to mourn his loss are his brother Glenn (Joan) and sister-in-law Sherry Christianson (Elgin); brother-in-law Roger Taillieu (Georgia), sister-in-law Mavis Taillieu, and their families. Lorne was predeceased by his wife, June (Justice) in 1981 at the early age of 48; parents, Anton and Anne (Stone); sisters, Aldine, Mae and Lorraine; brother-in-law Glenn Batchelor; brothers, Earl (Ruby), Elgin and Wayne; and recently, his brother-in-law Wilf Taillieu. Lorne was born in Minnedosa where his father, who was born in Denmark, ran a creamery. When times got tough, the family moved to Winnipeg and Lorne spent his youth in the West End, where he and his brothers learned to play and excel in every sport possible. Most notable were his skills in hockey and lacrosse. In 2012 he and brother Glenn were inducted into The Manitoba Lacrosse Hall of Fame. After graduating from Daniel McIntyre, Lorne worked at many jobs, before starting his career in the insurance adjusting business. He began working for Kernaghans in his mid-twenties and he and his wife, June were transferred to many places in Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario. Eventually, they moved back to Winnipeg where he met a younger adjuster by the name of Arden McMaster, and in 1976 they started their own company, "Christianson McMaster" later known as C&M, a very well respected adjusting company. As a lifetime member of The Order of the Blue Goose International, Lorne was very active in the Insurance Fraternity. In 1992, Lorne retired at the age of 60, because he wanted to spend more time in his favourite place, Alamo, TX. Texas was a big part of Lorne's life, having started camping there with his wife, June, during the 70s, and later he and Marilyn built a home at The Alamo Country Club in 1992. They made many friends and he was able to play tennis and golf to his heart's content. Lorne was a member at Breezy Bend for many years, where he had some wonderful friends who were so important to him. The golf, as well as the stories are legendary. We would like to acknowledge the wonderful care Lorne received and the friendships that Lorne and Marilyn made in Niverville, particularly during his last week, after having suffered a severe stroke. During our experience in the Heritage PCH in Niverville, our family sees that there is a need for such a facility to serve Headingley and the surrounding area. To this end, in lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated in Lorne's memory to be sent to the Headingley Community Foundation, 5353 Portage Ave., Headingley, MB, R4H 1J9. A Service of Remembering Lorne will be held at the Charleswood United Church, 4820 Roblin Blvd., Winnipeg on August 18, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. A Gentleman Always Rest in Peace For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website.
