BEVERLEY ZELLY ANNE TURNER (nee SHEWFELT) On September 17, 1932, in her grandparent's farmhouse in Archibald, Manitoba, an extraordinary lady was born, Beverley Zelly Anne Turner (nee Shewfelt)...and her story began... You may also know Beverley as Bev, Mrs. Turner, Sis, Aunt, Mom, Ma, Grams, and GGMa; however you knew her, was to love her. Mom was born to Charlotte and John Shewfelt spending her young life on the farm with her paternal grandparents Maw and Paw Shewfelt and Tippy, who she adored. Mom was a lovely big sister (her words!) to Allin and Joseph. While working as a country school teacher, Mom was smitten by our handsome Air Force Dad, Frank. The two soon fell in love and were married on September 6, 1952 settling into our long-time family home on Burrows in 1956. That's where we come in...David, John, Mark and Charna (not listed in order of "favourite" child). We were pretty good kids, the wooden spoon "got lost", after John was born. While mostly a stay at home mom, she also worked as an Internal Auditor with the Bank of Montreal (retired in 1989) and a volunteer with the Canadian Diabetes Association where she shared her passion to educate and support diabetics across Manitoba. Mom had an outstanding sense of humour, often catching us off guard and bringing us to our knees laughing. Nothing was too sacred, she had no mercy for phone solicitors and she cracked us up right to the end. Mom had no qualms using four letter words too...but only for emphasis. A wonderful listener, Mom's heart is full of the many life experiences we shared with her and for that we are grateful. An expert sewer, knitter and crocheter, Mom could fix any "blow out" and whip up a pair of mittens or her famous slippers aka "suicide socks" in no time. And of course her infamous dish cloths (if you got some, you were super special!). Computer savvy: Mom could Google, FaceTime, Skype and game with the best of us. Superb culinary skills; particularly the "secret" recipe for oatmeal chocolate chip cookies...maybe if you are lucky we will share it one day. When Mom was asked who would be the best actress to play her, she replied "Judge Judy." Mom's brother Joseph and his partner Andrew shared many travel adventures with her, each commemorated by a lovely tourist bag! Mom cherished all of her kids: David, John (Kathy), Mark (Karen), Charna (Rob) and best buddy Rose and her Grandkids, by far her biggest joy: Brock (Shannon), Brian, Bill (Natalie), Jenn (Drew), Dylan (Christina), Craig (Zorianna), Christina (Paul), Jace (Patricia) and Great-Grandkids; Briella "Twinks", Ryan and Daniel. Grams shared a unique bond with each of her Grandkids imparting history, wisdom and humour. She loved them all "mega much." Mom - although on Sunday, July 31, 2016, the last page of your life story was read, your courage and strength will continue to inspire us and your love and kindness will remain in our hearts forever...we love you more. A private family gathering will be held in La Riviere, MB. Should friends choose, a memorial donation to the Winnipeg Humane Society was Mom's request.

  • I'm deeply saddened by Bev's death. I got to know her through her mom Char who became an 'other mother' to me, and through her brother Joseph. I was an occasional visitor to the family home on Burrows and it was there that I got to meet some of the kids of whom she was so proud. She delighted in in all of you and was ecstatic when you blessed her with grandchildren. Yes, she was indeed computer-literate and we'd exchange emails, especially on each other's birthdays, or stuff about animals, cats especially. Our last exchange was just 4 months ago when she wished me happy 71st. What a memory! (I need electronic aids to deal with life's events!) I had both love and respect for Bev. She was a special lady and beautiful human being. I offer my sincerest condolences to all her family. I'm disappointed there will be no service at which I could express my sympathy to you face-to-face. - Posted by: Gord Richardson (Friend) on: Aug 06, 2016
