IRWIN YAUK July 17, 1936 - July 21, 2016 Irwin (Irv) passed away in the Kingston General Hospital at the age of 80, after a lengthy battle with cancer. A native of Winnipeg, Irv was the fourth of six children born to David and Amalie Yauk. He attended Machray School where his creativity, sense of humour and talent for illustration shone through as editor of Classroom 17's informal weekly newspaper "The Machray News" (whose reading rights could be purchased for 1¢). Irv's father became ill, prompting his formal education to end early as Irv began working at various jobs to support the family. During this time he met and married his beloved wife of 58 years, Carolyn (nee Charlesworth). Irv continued to work hard, becoming an integral part of H.C. Paul Ltd./Westward Power. He also used his artistic talent to create signs, show cards and most of H.C. Paul's flyers and promotions. Irv's artwork could be seen around Winnipeg on signs, show cards and most of H.C. Paul's flyers and promotions. Before retiring, he also worked for several years at Regal Bedding. Upon retirement, he and Carolyn moved to Kingston where they spent many days exploring southeastern Ontario. Irv was a gentle, kind and compassionate man who was always thoughtful and considerate of others. He was a loving and caring husband and father with a good sense of humour. Irv's strong work ethic was evident in everything he did. He was a talented illustrator and graphic artist (with a love of comic strips), a jazz music enthusiast and an unwavering Blue Bombers fan. He remained interested in the happenings of Winnipeg and continued to subscribe to the Winnipeg Free Press. Irv is sadly missed by his wife Carolyn and their four children: Alice (Blaise), James (Tiffany), Jennifer (Greg and their sons Jeffrey and Nate) and David (Tara). At Irv's request, the family held a private cremation ceremony in Kingston, ON.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • I remember Irv from my days at H C Paul Limited. He was always a calm and friendly presence. He was a skilled warehouse manager and I always admired the graphics and signs he made. If I knew then what I know now about jazz we would have had many hours additional conversation about this subject, but I was just a green teenager who did not know much at all. Irv and his family will be in my prayers. - Posted by: Theo Paul (none) on: Aug 09, 2016

  • My first boss and a great guy. A very decent and fair man and a great asset at H.C.Paul LTd. My sincere condolences to all the family. - Posted by: Tim Paul (Friend) on: Aug 09, 2016

  • Our thoughts of sympathy to your family on Irv's death. We often think of your family and have fond memories of get togethers on Conway St. May happy memories give you support. - Posted by: Jeanette and Garry Kirk (former neighbors on Conway St. in Winnipeg, MB) on: Aug 07, 2016
