Violet was born on April 6, 1939. She lived in the Silver Bay/ Moosehorn area throughout her childhood and in her teenage years moved to Steep Rock where she met Gilbert. They married and had four children. She farmed in Steep Rock alongside of Gilbert until her health prevented her from being physically able to participate but she continued to assist by giving helpful advice. Mom was a great cook and she took pride in canning and preserving the vegetables and fruit from their bountiful garden each year. She enjoyed sewing, reading and another favourite pastime was watching the NASCAR races on Sundays. She enjoyed family gatherings and was happiest with her family by her side. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at the Faulkner Community Hall with Pastor Jeff Romas officiating. Service will conclude at the hall with a lunch to follow. The family would like to thank the staff at the Seven Oaks Hospital Dialysis 1 Unit and the staff at the Maples Personal Care Home for their care and support to mom as her health declined. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Violet's memory to The Kidney Foundation of Canada, 1 - 452 Dovercourt Drive, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3Y 1G4. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • If the world was full of Violet Filion's it would be a much better world. I spent many hours at the Filion residence. Myself, Allen, with Robert and Bruce and a host of other teens would invade their basement on weekends. We were a rowdy noisy bunch. Violet and Gib never blinked an eye. I'm sure they couldn't sleep with all of us shouting and carrying on. We smoked downstairs while playing pool and usually left a mess. But we were always welcome there. Violet would always greet us with a smile. She was a special lady. She will be missed by many but always fondly remembered. - Posted by: Robert Baldwin (Friend) on: Aug 15, 2016
