ANDRE (ANDY) ANTHONY SHARPE It is with indescribable grief that we, Marie, Frank, and Gabriel Schnerch announce the passing of our beloved brother, brother-in-law, and uncle on August 4, 2016. Born to Harry and Betty Sharpe in the winter of 1951, André mostly lived his life on his terms, and towards the end, we are thankful we could help him do just that. For André, everything he did became a learning experience. His insatiable curiosity directed him to dismantle everything from his mechanical childhood toys to Mom's washing machine and just recently, his furnace. Thankfully, in his adulthood, he was able to put everything back together again, and not surprisingly, all worked so much better than before including all of our televisions that were finely tuned whenever he dropped by for a visit. In his youth, he was proud to play rhythm with THE TRIPP and the HAYMARKET RIOT and managed to keep in touch with his fellow musicians throughout life. Although he was very private, his many friends held immense importance for him. One frigid winter working as a rural linesman with Manitoba Hydro encouraged him to enter university and earn a degree in engineering. No more clearing iced lines and sleeping in fleabag hotels for him. On the other hand, being an avid hunter, he thought nothing of sitting in a cold, damp marsh in morning darkness awaiting the ducks and geese that would later grace his dinner table. A brilliant electrical engineer, he worked with the Department of Transport and NavCanada until retiring in 2005. He loved retirement. It afforded him more time to tinker. Cremation has taken place and as per his wishes, there will be no service. If you feel the need to acknowledge your friendship with André, we ask you to raise a glass of fine scotch and be thankful we were all bestowed with the wonderful gift that was André Sharpe. WE WILL MISS YOU SO MUCH DEAR ONE

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • I was introduced to Andy 36 years ago while dating my husband of 34 years Bob Clarkson. Since then we've shared many dinners at our place (or grits as Andy would call it). I thoroughly enjoyed listening to Andy & Bob reminisce about the old days, especially their memories of the band. We will miss him greatly. My condolences to his sister Marie, brother-in-law Frank and nephew Gabe. - Posted by: Patti Clarkson (Friend) on: Aug 18, 2016

  • An incredible role model at work. It was an honor and privilege to have known him. Glass raised. - Posted by: Sepehr (colleague) on: Aug 17, 2016

  • So sorry to hear of Andy's passing. I left Winnipeg many many years ago and reconnected to our mutual friend a few years back. I only recently connected with Andy again. Many memories of days past and great memories they are. My condolences to his family & friends - it's very hard to loose one of our peers! Rock on Andy! - Posted by: Barb Wilson (Croft) (Old friend) on: Aug 16, 2016

  • The passing of Andy has broken a link to some wonderful memories. We all loved hanging out together, whether watching the band practice in the basement, or spending time after school or on weekends. Living away from Winnipeg for a number of years only sweetened the gathering of the gang to catch up or reminisce. Thank you Andy for your presence - Posted by: Marie Buchok (nee Thomas) (friend) on: Aug 16, 2016

  • To lose a friend you have had for over 50 years is very hard. I think back on all the memories we shared in The Tripp and Haymarket Riot. The times we had at the Lodge in Lundar. The many glasses of Scotch we would share. Always was a great time. He was always a great friend. I know he will be missed by many. - Posted by: Bob Clarkson (Friend) on: Aug 13, 2016

  • I will definitely raise a glass of Scotch with other dear friends from Andre's past. I will miss his emails complete with so many pictures from the Haymarket Riot days. Rest in Peace Andy, we will miss you Ms. Lizzy (as he always called me) - Posted by: Liz (Friend) on: Aug 13, 2016
