OLIVE ELLEN PHILLIPS Olive passed away on August 15, 2016 at the home of her daughter. She was born on August 14, 1921, the only child of Edith and Roy Anderson of Myrtle, Manitoba. Predeceased by her husband George in 1973; her son Lyle in 2008, she is survived by daughter Gail (Keith) Glover; daughter-in-law Candice Phillips and will be sadly missed by her grandchildren, Shannon, Pam (Kevin), Garth (Laurel), Dorian and Gavin (Marsha). She was Granny O' to seven dearly loved great grandchildren. She will be forever loved and remembered by Naomi, Sarai, Ari, Yael Stevens and their father Nathan, and Matthew, Tessa and Mia Carlin. Olive grew up and went to school in the Myrtle community. In 1942 she married George Phillips and for 21 years they farmed and raised their children Gail and Lyle. In 1963, they moved to Winnipeg. Olive shared her home with her widowed mother for 18 years until she required increased care. After working as a bookkeeper at several businesses she retired as an accountant for Success Angus Commercial College in 1976. She enjoyed her volunteer work with several organizations. Olive spent 24 summers at her cottage in Matlock where she tended to her large yard, grew vegetables and attended Matlock Community Church on Sunday mornings. For the past 27 years she made her home at Fred Douglas Place and we thank her friends and the staff for their support. Until recently she continued to bake her delicious apple pies and butter tarts; enjoyed a competitive game of scrabble; and was an avid reader. Her health deteriorated in the past few weeks, and we thank the staff of Health Sciences Centre, the Palliative Home Care Program, as well as, her long-time family physician Dr. John Mayba for the excellent medical care she received. Cremation has taken place and her ashes will be interred in Myrtle Cemetery. No formal service will be held. In recognition of her love of dogs, donations in her memory may be made to: Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 9Z9, or to a charity of choice.
