PHYLLIS EDWARDS (nee MELNYK) June 1946 - August 2016 On August 13, 2016 Phyllis peacefully passed away at Riverview Health Centre, after a difficult battle with cancer. Phyllis is survived by her daughter Roxanne (Glen), her stepdaughters Natalie (Stephen) and Deborah, her grandchildren Lance, Jordan, Josh, Lynton, Jamel, Joel and Even, and four great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her sisters: Lee (Cecil) and Patricia, her brothers: Nick (Chris), Louis (Carol), Michael (Cheryl), and John, and her special friend Dave, in addition to many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Phyllis was predeceased by her parents Peter and Helen Melnyk, her sisters: Ann Boryskiewich and Nellie Boryskiewich, and her brother Joseph Melnyk. Phyllis was born June 1946, in Russell, Manitoba to Peter and Helen Melnyk. She was the fifth of 10 children who grew up on the family farm near Silverton. Most of her adult life was spent living and working in Winnipeg, with the exception of a three-year period in Ontario. Phyllis was a devoted mother and baba who loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren, who were her pride and joy. She loved to travel, spend time in the garden, read books, and entertain. She was a phenomenal cook, and later in life enjoyed quilting, making a quilt for each of her grandchildren. She had an active social life and enjoyed going to dances, playing cards and board games. After her retirement from the Civil Service, she found joy in volunteering her time to the Mennonite Central Committee. She would do anything to help a friend. She loved life and embraced it fully. The family would especially like to thank the wonderful staff at Riverview Health Centre for their care and support towards the end of her journey. As per Mom's wishes a private service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Phyllis' name to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation or Riverview Health Centre Foundation.
