VERNA JOYCE BROWN (REBECK) July 7, 1941 - August 2, 2016 It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Verna Brown on August 2, 2016 at the age of 75. Verna will be greatly missed by her children: Darlene (Greg), Geraldine (Gary), David, and Wendy (Mike), grandchildren: LeAnne, Cheri, Samantha, Randy, Earl, Emily, Taylor, Stephanie, Dylan, Jeffrey and Ian, great-grandchildren: Kaebrie, Kara, Adlee and Owen. Verna was born in St. Boniface, Winnipeg, Manitoba and grew up in the North Point Douglas area. She spent a lot of time with her extended family in Birds Hill. Verna met Gerry and they married August 29, 1959. They had four children in Winnipeg and moved to Fort McMurray, Alberta in 1971. While there she worked at the Hudson's Bay and the local newspaper. She enjoyed all outdoor activities and did a lot of camping, boating and fishing. In the early 1990s they moved to an acreage around Caroline, Alberta. Verna loved the farm life, caring for many animals including goats, chickens, horses and cows. She hosted many gatherings for family and friends, many who have fond memories of her hustling around her farm. Retiring from the farm, Verna moved to the Sylvan Lake area where she has lived for the last 15 years where she enjoyed selling Tupperware at all the local farmers markets. Verna was an avid traveler / driver and enjoyed visiting family and friends all over Alberta and Manitoba. She supported with pride all her grandchildren's sports and activities, cheering them on faithfully. She will be greatly missed. Thank you to the nurses and doctors at the Red Deer Regional Hospital for their care and concern for Verna. A Celebration of Verna's life will be held at the Chapel of the Sylvan Lake Funeral Home, 5019 47a Ave., Sylvan Lake, Alberta on August 27, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. As an expression of sympathy, in memory of Verna's love of animals, donations can be made in her name to the Alberta SPCA. Cremation entrusted to Rocky Mountain Crematorium, Rocky Mountain House, Alberta. Condolences may be forwarded to www.sylvanlakefuneralhome.ca Sylvan Lake and Rocky Funeral Homes and Crematorium, your Golden Rule Funeral Homes, entrusted with the arrangements. 403-887-2151

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Whenever we were with Verna (and Gerry) we so enjoyed the stories, and Verna had many. Rick could sit for hours to hear her stories. We loved her dearly. Brown family, our hearts go out to all of you. Rick Rebeck & Jaye - Posted by: Rick Rebeck & Jaye Cadzow (family) on: Sep 13, 2016

  • The three of us knew Verna and Gerry very well. We worked for Suncor in Fort McMurray and attended many functions with them. There were many great times! We were saddened to learn of Verna's passing and very sorry we were not aware as we would have attended her service. Our condolences go out to Geraldine, Darlene, David and Wendy. May the fond memories help to "numb" the sadness. Jane/Art Morris/Don Stephen - Posted by: Jane & Art Morris and Don Stephen (Friends of both Verna and Gerry) on: Aug 28, 2016
